Cowboys owner Jerry Jones says anthem protests are damaging the NFL

Dallas owner says he has heard from concerned sponsors

The Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, who this month said he would bench any of his players who “disrespect the flag” during the national anthem, says that the protest movement is damaging the NFL.

This season dozens of NFL players have knelt during the anthem to highlight racial injustice in the United States. The movement has split the nation, with many perceiving it as disrespectful to military veterans. The NFL’s television ratings are also down, although it is not clear whether this is directly linked to the protests, as TV sports audiences have fallen across America.

“There is no question the league is suffering negative effects from these protests,” Jones said on Sunday.

Jones’s Cowboys are valued at around $5bn, and he said he had heard from concerned sponsors. “Our ability to be substantive is based on having a strong NFL, a league that people are really interested in and want to watch and want to watch the games,” Jones said. “At all times, if I am anything, I am first and foremost a proponent of making the NFL strong. Making us have as many people watching the game as we can and watching in light of what we are doing and that’s playing football. If all this makes you stronger to represent messages, let’s don’t do it in a way that tears down the strength of the NFL.”

“Racial injustice”? Say who? A cat radicalized by a Muslim gf, who wears T shirts celebrating murderers like Che Nd Castro?

THAT “racial injustice”?

He should have thought of that before he locked arms with cop haters.

The NFL is not dead yet. It's just resting. Perhaps it's stunned.

You could do a long series of comedy routines on the NFL's denial.

“As for the real damage? All of this leads to what I think will be a league cut on pay by 2019, and some major strike to occur. The union will find no public support for the players and the strike will finish off whatever enthusiasm existed.”

A players strike will be a fitting end to the NFL. Remember, this would come from an ethnic group that has brought us Shiela Jackson-Lee, Frederica Wilson, Hank Johnson, Maxine Waters and a gaggle of “political lawn jockeys” from Eastern Seaboard States! Just consider the fact that in an NFL stadium, the collective IQ of the assembled goes down when the teams take to the field.

Yesterday, instead of following the Panthers I watched baseball, F 1 boat races, 2 auto races. Had DVR ‘Live PD’ waiting in the queue if needed.
I still don’t know the Panther score, and don’t care.

Condoleeza Rice was always explaining the NFL commissioner job as being her most wanted job in her lifetime.

Not to mention that it is way overproduced. Commentators reading from scripted prompters or cue cards to the side of the cameras. No real commentary. It's all rehearsed and choreographed.

Look at what happened to poor Al Michaels when he went off script with a really funny joke?

If I watch football at all anymore I turn off the volume and listen to the local radio station audio affiliate broadcasting the game.

I guess if you want to slam someone, you should at least know the facts/reasons....Jerry is probably the best of them all and tried to do the right thing but realized that the problem was much deeper than he or anyone else in the NFL imagined - once we catch fire, we can burn with real heat.

"“Something is happening here, but you don’t know what it is … do you, Mr. Jones?”

Actually what they are really upset about in the black community is that after 8 years of Obama and his black rescue, that they are worse off, and with few options besides broken families, more food stamps, no free smart phone upgrade, worse education, and still can't smack around their baby mamma's without getting arrested.

They just don't know who to blame or what went so wrong? Obama threw them paper life preservers in rough seas. It looked good with great optics, but they are still drowning.

All of this leads to what I think will be a league cut on pay by 2019, and some major strike to occur.

I'm waiting to see the Salary Cap for the 2018 season. It should be announced some time after the Super Bowl in time for the teams to trim payroll/rosters in order to be in compliance prior to the new League year. I'm betting on a minimum 10% drop as opposed to the 10%-15% increase the teams have been used to getting. That for me will the first real concrete evidence that America really has turned it's back on the NFL.

Look for a plan for an expansion to a World League. That solves everything as far as the circus owners are concerned.

Jerry is against the kneeling and is trying to save the NFL from itself. He is one of the good guys on this.

Where have you been?

Normally you are up on these things so I will not hold not knowing what is going on with the PRO African Football League against you.

He took a knee with his players

It IS disrespectful to the military, but that’s only a small part. It’s distrespectful to America overall, and everything America stands for.

I’m a lifelong Cowboys fan and I haven’t watched a game since he took a knee in support of the racist blm movement. The NFL has totally disappeared from my house. We don’t even look up highlights or scores. It sucks. I love the sport of football, but the NFL felt that they didn’t need me, so the feeling is mutual.

I used to think that the NFL (players and owners) were like me: proud to be an American and glad for the opportunities that all of us have to make something of our lives regardless of race or sex. If someone had a special talent and developed it to become outstanding, we would all cheer him (or her) on. But the kneeling and disrespect for our beautiful country changed my outlook. Now I see all of them with a jaundiced eye. I hear their clever little nuances and it makes me sick. There is a great divide in our country and it didn’t start with me. They made themselves different by trying to act like my superiors. They can all GTH.
