European Union leaders have softened their stance on the Brexit talks with Prime Minister Theresa May out of fear that prolonged problems may bring down her government. According to the British newspaper the Daily Telegraph, Angela Merkel now says that she has "absolutely no doubt" that the EU and the UK can both make concessions. That's new. Until now, Merkel and her friends made clear that they would not take a step back. The UK would have to give in, that was all.
Now, suddenly, it's this:
"If we are all clear in our minds, I have absolutely no doubt that we can reach a good result I see the ball not only in the UKs court but I also see it in our court to the same extent.""
European Council President Donald Tusk has also weighed in, saying that the rumors of deadlock in the negotiations were "exaggerated." He added, "Our ambition is to achieve this, the final of the first phase in December."
Even European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker weighed in, saying that he and his allies are determined to "have a fair deal" with Britain, explaining, "I hate the no-deal scenario. I want to have a fair deal with Britain."
These statements come shortly after May called on European leaders to give her a deal she can actually "defend" in Britain, and after more reports of a brewing Tory rebellion. Increasingly, more conservative, eurosceptic Tory MP's are worried that May will give in to too many of the EU's demands, which is why they're threatening to unseat her and replace her with someone who's more aggressively anti-EU.

I guess the EU realized they needed their patsy.
Why shouldn’t the EU be happy to sit Britain in the corner with Norway, Switzerland and Iceland?
Countries that live under the EU acquis but not a part of the EU in shaping it.
Then soon enough Britain will rejoin the EU as Unified Ireland, Scotland, Wales and England*. In that order.
*Or perhaps London and then England.
The real reason is May is anti Trump........Germany should never be considered an ally
If PM May were serious about “Brexit” England would simply sever all ties. Period. Then let the chips fall where they may. Europe would not try to isolate England. Europe would be punching itself in the gut if it did that. Brexit will, however not even delay the Islamification of Britain. That isprobably already past the tipping point. There is a calculated table of progressive population ratios that describes what unfailing happens with increases in the Moslem portion. That table presupposes that the government is not wholeheartedly siding with the Sharians.
acquis?
Germany is Germany and Germany has a history. Its Chancellor now is an old Stasi. Germany should not be considered an ally by any country that has suffered Germany’s depredations in the past.
Because.the countries outside of the EU will fare far better when the EU economy collapses.
Which is coming.
And they desperately need for there to not be a place for their dissidents to escape to.
Remember, had their been no place outside the Soviet state for Alexander Solzhenitsyn to escape to, the Soviet Union would still stand.
It’s obvious they don’t give a damn about the citizens’ votes to get out of the EU.
Aha. I had not met that one before.
“England would simply sever all ties....”
I think the Eurocrats realized that the UK was being given no other choice.
There is nothing to negotiate. It should have been done years ago. It’s all Kabuki theatre. The EU, Theresa May and her party have NO intention of EVER honoring the Brexit vote.
Too bad Merkel didn’t double down.
“George III is often accused of obstinately trying to keep Great Britain at war with the revolutionaries in America, despite the opinions of his own ministers. In the words of the Victorian author George Trevelyan, the King was determined “never to acknowledge the independence of the Americans, and to punish their contumacy by the indefinite prolongation of a war which promised to be eternal.” The King wanted to “keep the rebels harassed, anxious, and poor, until the day when, by a natural and inevitable process, discontent and disappointment were converted into penitence and remorse”.

“After Saratoga, both Parliament and the British people were in favour of the war; recruitment ran at high levels and although political opponents were vocal, they remained a small minority

“When John Adams was appointed American Minister to London in 1785, George had become resigned to the new relationship between his country and the former colonies. He told Adams, ‘I was the last to consent to the separation; but the separation having been made and having become inevitable, I have always said, as I say now, that I would be the first to meet the friendship of the United States as an independent power.’”

We (the U.S, U.K. and Anglosphere) have prospered only due to our ‘general’ adherence to Almighty God’s commands, during the 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th centuries.
Now, not so much.
