The best part was York imitating turkey calls, which prompted the German soldiers to peek out of their trenches, and which gave him a clean shot at them. Patton loved the fact that Americans knew how to improvise on the battlefield, something their adversaries never learned.

The Police: "De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da"

Doo-wop never really went away. This is from the Eighties.

Yes, and if you could chord a G, C, and D,
you could play half the songs on the playlist!

Fine performance by legendary character actor Walter Brennan as the preacher at the beginning.

Dion & the Belmonts: "I Wonder Why"

The Italian kids from Belmont Avenue in the Bronx would stand on the street corners and practice their doo-wop vocal moves.

Good evening, Mac...*HUGS*...big plans for the weekend?

It was single digits this morning, but going back up for rain next week. I hate rain at this time of year.

No specific plans for the weekend. I'd like to get out and put the garden to rest for the Winter.

I have to pack it in for the night - I'm absolutely exhausted.

If you check out the classic 1959 western “Rio Bravo,” there is a scene where Walter Brennan goes off script with a live weapon and badly rattles John Wayne. It looked so good that Howard Hawks, the director, kept it in the final cut.

It’s been busy, as I get ready for a rail conference in San Diego next week. Went out today for my 69th birthday to my favorite local sushi bar and splurged a bit.

Billy Joel’s “Innocent Man” disk was a good look at the past. When I first saw the “Uptown Girl” video, I was shocked. I never thought I would live long enough to see the music of the Four Seasons satirized.

Billy Stewart: "Summertime"

Billy's 400 pound frame eventually did him in, but he had the fastest mouth in the business.

I have never seen that one. Might be a nice DVD for a winter night.

The Jelly Beans: "The Kind of Boy You Can't Forget"

These girls and their bass man came out of George "Shadow" Morton's shop in the Brill Building. It's from early 1964.
