George W. Bush just laid a major smackdown on Trumpism
CNN Politics ^ | 10/19/2017 | Chris Cillizza

(CNN)George W. Bush doesn't talk much about politics in public. Which makes the speech he gave Thursday in New York City -- a point-by-point rejection of Trumpism -- all the more important and noteworthy. The 43rd president of the United States -- and the last Republican to hold the office before Donald Trump -- didn't mention the 45th president by name in his speech at the George W. Bush Institute. But Trump -- and his views -- were ever-present in the former President's address.

Bush condemned "nationalism distorted into nativism." He derided "discourse degraded by casual cruelty." He acknowledged that "our politics seems more vulnerable to conspiracy theories and outright fabrication." And, most importantly, Bush said that "bigotry seems emboldened."

I would say it’s more like GWB laid a major smackdown on his legacy. Many good patriotic Americans voted for him believing him that he was a conservative - he just proved the opposite is true.

"I'm not going to spend my time criticizing [The President]. There are plenty of critics in the arena. He deserves my silence. "I love my country a lot more than I love politics, I think it is essential that he be helped in office."

George W Bush stood up and let his puppet masters pull his strings. That is all it was.

IIRC, Bush compared Globalism to the past event of industrialization and called it an unmovable force that cannot be stopped.

Poor choice of comparisons. Industrialization was driven by invention. Globalism is driven by politics which can change like wind direction.

No criticism of Obama, but he’ll come out of the woodwork to attack Trump.

You would think that the stoopid party - if they wanted to keep their cushy jobs- would have JUMPED ALL ABOARD the Trump train.

The single most exciting thing to happen to the party since Reagan.
And they are fighting him instead of riding the wave to higher success.

Their is no greater proof than this, that they are RINO’s. Democrats running as Republicans since the “Limbaugh Caucus” took over congress for the first time in 40 years, during Clintoon’s term.

“George W. Bush doesn’t talk much about politics in public.”
True, he never opened his yap once while Obama rode roughshod over the Constitution and Americans.

With Bush we got searches in the airport line, a housing market crash, and will be paying the bill for removing Sadaam for the rest of eternity

at least with Obama all we got was "affordable healthcare", fliped Iraq to a nuclear Iran, and a race war

thanks for nuthin' Globalist George

Bush said that "bigotry seems emboldened."

None of these jerks can ever cite one single instance that indicates this "bigotry" they speak of so frequently. Not one single thing.

Ah, our "compassionate conservative."

Maybe he's ready to release a series of anti-Trump paintings and this is the PR warmup.

That was the most cryptic incoherent speech ever... like straight out from a secret society.

Civic duties? Globalism? Trumpism? Terrorism but immigration? What?

Where is the civic duty in illegals? Antifa? Wtf is he smoking? is he a closet communist?

maybe many of us don’t spend our time here endless searching for a four day old thread.

I don’t spend 24/7 on FreeRepublic, meaning that pertinent threads should be posted several times a day, because FReepers come and go during the course of the day.
