In 2004, when climate change was still called global warming, it was considered sensational enough to get top billing in The Day After Tomorrow, a city-smashing blockbuster by disaster master Roland Emmerich.
In 2017, the desire to accelerate climate change even in the name of brash, mass-market pop art is quaint yet horrifying. The nagging feeling that humankind may already have zoomed past some sort of ecological tipping point thanks to our voracious appetites for cheap energy and consumer goods seems increasingly undeniable. Previously, we looked to the multiplex to vicariously experience the catastrophic aftermath of freak super-storms and monster tsunamis; now we see these images appear with increasing and distressing regularity in the news.
Perhaps that is why climate change is a common theme across a broad range of movies this year, either as an obvious baddie or a subtextual spectre. The forthcoming eco-thriller Geostorm optimistically suggests that we could circumvent the cataclysmic heavy weather caused by climate change if only we tasked someone like scientist-astronaut Gerard Butler to invent a network of weather-controlling satellites.
Any real-world solution to our inescapable climate change problem is likely to be similarly and uncomfortably extreme an even more inconvenient truth. Until we overcome our indifference to this monumental problem, the outlook is only going to get worse.

Harvey Weinstein thought he could deflect attention away from is sex crimes by picking a fight with the NRA...
The newest soon to be outrage is Hollywood creeps raping children... I’m sure these monsters think they can use ‘climate change’ to ‘change’ the subject.

Insurence companies are using the Global Warming scam to make more money ,so why not
New? Uh ... no. Just as the article said, you can go back to 2004 (and probably even earlier than that) to see examples of how hollyweird has used it in movies.
Saw the preview to Geostorm. All it really needs to be complete is....SHARKS!
If all this Global Warming weather trends continues, I’m going to have to invest in an umbrella.
We’ve had an unusually warm October here in Upstate NY. I don’t know why everyone complains about global warming, I think it’s great!
LOL, the new “SuperVillain” is the “Climate Denier”!
OK!! Everybody pay attention!
Lesson for today:
1. The sun is 1,300,000 times as big as the earth.
2. The sun is a giant nuclear furnace that controls the climates of all its planets.
3. The earth is one of the suns planets.
4. The earth is a speck in comparison to the size of the sun.
5. Inhabitants of the earth are less than specks.
Study Question: How do less-than-specks in congress plan to control the sun?
Personally, I’m tired of watching movies with scene after scene of CGI weather destruction. Once you have seen the tidal wave wash through New York City once, it gets kind of old. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen Golden Gate Bridge get smashed. Yawn.
The first few “evil weather” movies were interesting because they were new and different. Now that gimmick is old and worn out.
I recall the Rob Reiner movie, “The American President”, was a romantic comedy about a widowed president getting involved with a lobbyist, made in the mid ‘90s ,I believe??
Anyway, a major subplot of the movie was how the Annette Bening character was a lobbyist pushing global warming, and eventually, the president character played by Michael Douglas, came around and decided to use political capital to push a global warming bill in Congress.
Anyway, just noting, in what was supposedly a light hearted romantic comedy type of movie, they inserted global warming into it as a plot device. We know Hollywood does this sort of thing all the time.

I’ve wondered about global warming effects, and have discussed with some more liberal people about it. I have asked, even if we see global warming, are all the effects of it bad? As you mention, you’ve had some unseasonal warm weather. Is that bad?
Anyway, seems to me, even if global warming is happening, not all effects are bad. For example, the midwest is a productive agricultural region. Yet they have severe winters there. Global warming would result in a longer growing season, and potentially, much greater agricultural production in that area. So global warming could actually yield some benefits. But the liberals will never admit this.
a bit off topic, but, I heard that in one such movie showing worldwide weather disaster, and destruction of places around the world, that they were careful not to show disaster striking Muslim sites such as the Kaaba stone. Reason being, they didn’t want irate Muslims getting violent over a movie.
We should be so fortunate to have a populated planet full of consumers and meat eating v8 driving humanoids.
Because, it appears that the climate, atmosphere and storms are FAR worse on the other planets. In fact, all other Orbs should adopt our common sense approach to planetoid management.
Hope and change?
Yeah, that’s probably pretty smart. I mean, you’ve seen what they will do over a badly drawn cartoon. Just imagine what they would do if you destroyed Mecca in IMAX 3-D with surround sound.
CC and the Russians.
The Russians returned to TV/movies as the major villains 10 to 15 years ago. For a time following the 9-11 attacks, the Islamists were the major villains, but the PR efforts from the Saudis and CAIR and similar interests forced TV/movie-land to seek a different villain. TV/movie-land rediscovered The Russians.
Ironically, the Dems and Clinton also rediscoverd The Russians-as-villains shortly after Hillary lost the 2016 election.
