On Oct. 4, the House Intelligence Committee subpoenaed Fusion GPS, the opposition research firm at the center of the Trump dossier affair. On Monday, the company told the House what it can do with its subpoena. Fusion GPS chief Glenn Simpson and two others will "invoke their constitutional privileges not to testify," Simpson's lawyers told the committee in a letter. The panel shouldn't even bother to call Simpson to the hearing room, the lawyers said, because he won't answer their questions under any circumstances.
It seems unlikely the House will grant that request. If Simpson and two other GPS officials are going to assert their right against self-incrimination, lawmakers, or at least the majority Republican lawmakers on the committee, will want to hear it first-hand.
What is striking about Fusion's refusal is the form it took. Notifying the House that Simpson and the others will not testify took one paragraph. Yet Fusion sent a 17-page letter to the intelligence committee, going to great lengths to argue that Chairman Devin Nunes is not qualified to issue the subpoena.
Has anyone told John McCain?
Dear Mr. Simpson...... Leavenworth, Kansas has four seasons. Hope you enjoy them for the next couple of decades.
They are afraid of Arkancide............or SethRich-icide...........
Bring them in just to ask the questions which destroy their credibility.
Pleading their Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination certainly doesn’t do anything for the presumed credibility of their “dossier.”
And the GOPers will let them off the hook.
Taking the Fifth should be a good reason to start a full scale criminal investigation of Fusion GPS.
Basically, they are admitting they committed criminal acts and don’t want to incriminate themselves.
New Game: Something for Glen Simpson to do while waiting to testify.
Of course they should be called and forced to invoke the fifth amendment, if they so choose. Let the court of public opinion decide what might be incriminating.
Get them on camera, yep, all the legal wrangling in the world won’t matter then. Which is why they’ll never do it, they’re not going any where near testifying. They’d be convicted in the court of public opinion, which is all that really matters at this point because the entire matter was and is political. It backfired though, Trump still won.
will they be picking the lock to the front door of Fusion at 3am, too?
Cool. FISA warrant to determine who tried to subvert free elections, if it hits an American, tough shit. Un-mask becuase there is a LOT of data in the cloud and elsewhere. Own them.
Um, you do realize it is the Republicans who subpoenaed them? Which means they WILL NEVER back it up.
Yes, they should not escape the shame of taking the fifth in front of the Congressional Committee, and it should be broadcast on the nightly news!
Two questions I have ......
(1) I’ve heard that John McCain delivered the dossier to the FBI. Is that true?
(2) I’ve heard the FBI paid to continue funding Fusion GPS for more from information related to the dossier. Is that true?
Don't hold your breath. This is just a game.
“By majority vote, the United States House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence has decided to forward this information to The United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, with a request that they convene a grand jury to determine if the actions taken by Fusion GPS, its officers, employees, contractors, or customers, have engaged in violations of US federal law.”
They are fighting the testimony because they know they have the cards to collapse the Democrat’s Russian Collusion case. Someone needs to have the stones to make them talk.
