Universities warn against costumes based on other cultures

Universities across the country are once again encouraging students to think twice about their costume choices this Halloween, promoting the yearly “culture not a costume” campaign.

The “culture not a costume” campaign was first popularized by Ohio University students in 2011, with a series of images showing minority students holding photos of people dressed as interpretations of their respective ethnicities.

Can you still have fun at the expense of the mentally ill?

What if one of those genetic tests shows that I have some small percentage of my DNA originating from a variety of different places - what would then be a “different culture,” exactly?

This is still a university, right? Then a student should simply self-identify as a member of any culture they want to dress as.

Universities? You mean those organizations that were the jealous gatekeepers of learning and hiring before the internet and e-learning?

Their influence is fading fast.

Students at state schools should wear what they want as a protected form of speech. Tell the commissars to *%^# off and die.

No vampires... might be culturally offensive to Romanians... or Transylvanians... or Pennsylvanians.

Back in 1966, we had a black guy dressed in Klan robes. We all laughed and thought it was great. Another came as a Buddhist monk complete with gasoline can. That’s when monks were setting themselves on fire in SE Asia.

fine. Don’t dress like anything American, either, then. That would include Hollywood stars, singers, public and private personalities, inventors, sailors, cowboys, cowgirls, farm girls, farm boys, hippies, hillbillies or astronauts. And can we hold up pictures that show ‘ethnic American’ dress, too, or is the ‘ethnic’ stuff only for world majorities? And why is ‘ethnic’ even an issue in a ‘world citizen’ era?

What we need are “non-p.c., culturally insensitive Halloween parties”. Create flyers for them with the intention of getting protesters and agitators to show up at different places.

And if a real Halloween party is being held there, those that show up with normal costumes will be seen by the nutbags as *somehow* being offensive, their little imaginations running wild.

This will be especially good if alcohol is involved. Imagine the glee if some jerk tries to “slut shame” a girl while her muscular boyfriend is around. Thwap!

We’re going to watch Frito Bandito, Seedy Gonzalez, Count Chocula, and other similar reruns all weekend before Halloween just to show this guy what we think of his pompous pronouncement.
