A global tipping point for electric cars could come as early as 2022, as battery costs decrease and concerns about range and infrastructure ease. That’s from analysts at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, who in a little over a year’s time have turned even more optimistic about the future dominance of electric cars over internal-combustion vehicles. In a Tuesday note, the analysts forecast that one in three cars will be purely electric by 2030; their July 2016 prediction was one in 10 by the same year. “There are several factors converging that have led us to revise our thinking — a combination of changing customer preferences, increasingly viable product, regulation, and infrastructure,” they said in the note.

Liberal "authorities" will tell you otherwise and legislate that you abandon gasoline powered vehicles. That sucks. If they can't win you over with BS about electrics, they'll force you by government edict. The writing is on the wall (unfortunately), they want you to walk, ride bicycles, take the electric trolley bus or train, etc. Giving up gasoline-powered vehicles is their first step in taking away your ability to drive any vehicle. Don't fall for it.

Then the Tesla will limp to the charging station, while the Porsche’s naturally aspirated flat six continues to sing the chorus of angels, and the wipers continue to clear away the accumulated panties from the windshield.
Bingo! The slow transition should happen naturally and not be forced. It may take 1, 2, even 3 lifetimes to fully transition and who knows what tech will be available then. We may be "beaming" from place to place.
I also envision a solar surface on all e-cars which charge the batteries anytime they are outside not under some kind of cover.
I really don't understand all the negative comments in these e-car threads. Two and 3 car couples are normal. One or two of them could be e-cars for commuting and a third for road trips and/or working vehicle like a pickup truck. Heck, I live alone and have 4 street legal vehicles, and they all get used.
The Tesla X goes 0 to 60 in 2.9 seconds and has a towing capacity of 5000 pounds ...

That's what I keep saying. It's not about forcing us from gas cars to electric cars. The end goal is to get us out of cars altogether. "They" want us all riding an electric trolley bus or train, or walking, or riding bicycles and that means giving up on owning cars.
From what I can tell it is a limited time offer for models S and X and doesn't apply to model 3's..

I don’t have an electric car yet. In three years when my lease is up, I will want one. I have a Lexus cross over, RX450. Best car I’ve ever had. It’s electric and gas. Love it.
If California and other states get there wish of doing away with the internal combustion engineer, there will be no gas tax revenues from such vehicles as they will not consume diesel or gasoline.
So how are those empires going to be sustained? Mileage tax and GPS monitoring is how they want to transition.

I’m told it can’t sustain that speed to compete in long race. Don’t know what the limit is right now.
Its called planning ahead, we store 6 five gallon cans for our generator. I filled them a week ahead of the storm. Then again, we have gas powered cars, not ones that may need a long extension cord to power them!
Our electric company ironically is planning on extending their solar power farms citing how effective they are in Davis California. Davis is frankly in the Cal desert. We are not. I don’t get it.
Funny thing—there is actually a direct carbon fuel cell to produce electricity. One could cut out the middle man; and, just fuel the car with available high carbon fuels.
My car is a hybrid. I don’t have to recharge. I think if the improve the battery charging, and output, the car’s efficiency will improve.
Leasing the car thru Lexus. It’s a great car.
