“In a ruling that caused head-scratching everywhere except Chapel Hill, the N.C.A.A. announced on Friday that it could not punish the university or its athletics program because the “paper” classes were not available exclusively to athletes. Other students at North Carolina had access to the fraudulent classes, too. “

A roadmap for the future.

it’s crap......North Carolina basically conceded that they don’t care about their academic standards as long as they need the basketball and football programs to thrive.

I don't want to ever hear the term “death penalty” in connection with any NCAA investigation again.

So the pretense about being a student-athlete is blown.

Just sign all athletes up for sham classes, keep them eligible grade-wise, give out useless degrees, and recruit by telling the student-athletes, they'll be getting a free ride and a degree, no matter what they do in the classroom. All is legal with the NCAA, as long as the classes and degrees are offered to non-athletes.

Is that where the Black Studies, Feminist Studies, LGBT Studies, and Popular Culture Studies originated?

1) The NCAA had pretty much concluded after giving SMU the death penalty that they would never, ever do this again. All it did was consign a top-level program to three decades of suckage, and destroy the Southwest Conference, which led to a destructive game of Musical Chairs in conference hopping. Otherwise a post-Sandusky Penn State would certainly have gotten this punishment.

2)The situation now is that these Super Conferences like the ACC, SEC and Big Ten are more powerful than the NCAA itself. Start ticking them off and they may just pick-up their balls and leave to start their own athletic organization, leaving the NCAA with the Troys and Ball States of the world.

I was wondering where James Comey would end up. Did he read the press release at a press conference, or just sign it?

So the NCAA coddles athletes in college, protecting them from any consequences. Then they “graduate” to the NFL and NBA, and continue living in their media controlled cocoon. Then we shouldn't be surprised the result is a bunch of uneducated, unthankful, unpatriotic thugs.

So, if Louisville had just invited ALL students to attend the free stripper parties, everything would be cool?

Surprise, surprise. If Baylor wasn’t punished for dozens of rapes by football players, did anyone expect the sham NCAA to penalize NC for mere academic cheating? Academics has nothing to do with college athletes.

NCAA is still afraid the super conferences will decide they don’t need an NCAA anymore. We now have schools too big to punish.

How exactly does one nail their own coffin shut? The flimsy idea of “student athlete” just went completely out the window.

My hope is someday these jackasses that make these decisions meet Mr. Fake Student Athlete in a real world life and death situation and the Fake Student gets to show the Administrator just how in depth their knowledge runs.
