I agree you. Why set himself up for criticism. He appears quite shy.
My guess is that he is in a safe house of a sort and has had a minor nervous break down AND is being protected.
I can't imagine going through what he went through or any of those people went through.
The sounds are impressed in his memory and they are still vivid. Even I wake up and thinking about Vegas and think....it has to be a dream.
