Most Glocks have a relatively light trigger pull. That with the and the lack of a user-controlled safety mechanism (other than the users’s brain), equals a the potential for negligent discharge.

Exactly. I own and routinely carry a Glock 9mm. I am always extremely careful when holstering. I simply do not do it "by feel" - I visually check the holster, clothing, etc. as I holster the firearm. As other's have noted, the great thing about a Glock with one in the chamber is it is ready to go - just a trigger pull away from bang. That's also a bad thing if you are the least bit cavalier in handling a firearm or clumsy.

Interesting note about the Serpa retention holsters. My current holster is good old plain leather. However, I'm looking for retention holsters for both my G19 and a full size 1911. At least for the G19 I think I'll favor the ones with the thumb release vs the ones with the button/tab by the trigger guard...

No matter how mindful I can be - I do not trust myself without an external safety. I can manipulate the safety on my Ruger 1911 using only the braille method. It is second nature. Only thing that provides me assurance when a round is chambered and the hammer is up.

I carry GLOCK 9mm +1 all the time IWB. I use a holster with a single large clip. If I am going someplace where I may have to remove it, like trying on clothes or doctor visit, I clear the chamber before going inside and, if necessary, remove the entire holster with gun in it. I do have a locking holster but only use it for hiking and dry fire practice drawing from it before going out.

That is one of the hunting rules of safety. Works here too.

Know your backstop.

Yeah, I caught that too. Kind of like all those stories about killer SUV’s.

“Only thing that provides me assurance when a round is chambered and the hammer is up.”

I never chamber a round except on the range. I have grandchildren underfoot a lot of the time, thank God for undeserved blessings, so I accept the decrease in readiness for the sake of safety.

As a Glock owner (and lover), I was surprised not to see that name in the article. I am not surprised to see it in the comments, and I suspect you are right. Glocks are for people with perfect gun manners, not for cops who specialize in donuts and paperwork.

I assume Glocks are great guns from those who I know and trust who own them. Like any gun they require diligence. They have garnered a certain reputation as not ‘fool’ proof. I have been offered them to try by firearm industry folks. Might just take them up one day. Till then I have my 1911s. My other 1911 style autoloaders and my many double and single action revolvers. That’ll do for now.
