McCain makes speech blasting ‘half-baked’ nationalism
NY Post ^ | October 16, 2017 | Joe Tacopino

Senator John McCain blasted “half-baked” nationalism and praised international cooperation in a speech Monday night that appeared to contrast President Trump’s emphasis on putting “America first.”

The former POW and Arizona Republican called the United States “the last best hope on earth” while giving an acceptance speech for the National Constitution Center’s Liberty Medal, according to Politico.

McCain said it was the country’s duty to lead instead of blaming others for our problems.

“To fear the world we have organized and led for three-quarters of a century, to abandon the ideals we have advanced around the globe to refuse the obligations of international leadership and our duty to remain ‘the last best hope of earth’ for the sake of some half-baked, spurious nationalism cooked up by people who would rather find scapegoats than solve problems is as unpatriotic as an attachment to any other tired dogma of the past that Americans consigned to the ash heap of history,” Mccain said, according to the paper.

McCain added that the United States has a moral obligation to continue our tradition of spreading American ideals and would suffer if that commitment was not met.

“We live in a land made of ideals, not blood and soil,” he said.

“We have a moral obligation to continue in our just cause, and we would bring more than shame on ourselves if we don’t. We will not thrive in a world where our leadership and ideals are absent. We wouldn’t deserve to.”

“We live in a land made of ideals, not blood and soil,” he said. …”

Man does not live by bread alone, but Christ multiplied the loaves and fish so that the masses could eat. Blood, soil, and food are tangible, and as humans we live in a tangible world with tangible requirements. Our soil IS important, as is the blood that’s been spent protecting it - including that of those who fought and died in the same war as McCain fought.

Ultimately, our most important ideals as a nation include our commitment to the freedom of each individual to self-determine. This is central to what it means to be an American. Freedom = liberty is one of the divine rights recognized as such in our Declaration of Independence. It’s conceptually and ideologically at the core of being an American.

Many precious lives have been lost, and much blood spilled protecting our freedom as a nation and as individuals. Our government does not have the right to negotiate away our divine rights to any international/global entities. Attempting to do so is essentially spitting at the heart of America, devaluing the sacrifices of those who have died for our freedom, and betraying the citizenry for whom this government was formed.

Beautiful -- your whole comment of which I've only copied one line.

And I would go further in the same vein:

Our government doesn't have the right to take away my divine right to multiply the loaves on my own family's table by taking away the fruit of my labor and giving it to someone else -- except for the collective protection of me and my family member's lives by the police and military the commonwealth has set up for us.

Our government doesn't have the right to regulate and restrict my economic life so that crony capitalists and globalists like Warren Buffet and Zuckerberg can make insane amounts of money.  They are bartering away my ability to put bread on my family's table and find my own career niche in a society of brothers and sisters who care for each other's welfare and prosperity.

* * * * *

Let me add. I love your user name, NeverEverGiveUp, and just last week I discovered a 6 minute inspirational Youtube of that same name.  And I have listened to the audio of that several times already.

It features parts of President Donald Trump's commencement address at Liberty University this year.  The video clips of America are stirring.  And the musical score is out-of-this-world intoxicating.

All I think of every time he opens his mouth is the picture of him and his pet jihadis.

If McCain wants to make presidential decisions he should run for president.

Oh, he did and was rejected by his own party when we got Obwuanna for his first 4 years of jug-eared policies that have nearly fundamentally transformed America from free republic to Banana Republic.

Obwuanna’s policies gave the R's both houses of congress, and thankfully Donald J. Trump to right the wrongs of the duplicitous dictator, the great and mighty Obwuanna.
