Over the past 24 hours, a social media campaign highlighting and empowering victims of sexual assault and abuse has taken over Twitter.
Actress Alyssa Milano was one of the first to share the call for a "me too" hashtag, writing, "If youve been sexually harassed or assaulted write me too as a reply to this tweet."
She shared a note from a friend, which read, "If all the women who have been sexually harassed or assaulted wrote, 'Me too' as a status, we might give people a sense of the magnitude of the problem."
Other women who have used #metoo on social media include Lady Gaga and actress Anna Paquin. Overnight, the trend on Twitter had reached more than 300,000 mentions.

Everyone who petted in high school wants to virtue signal on Facebook with #MeToo.

Well there ya go.
#THEHORROR!
If they’re serious, they’ll out the rest of the hollywood abusers.
perfect.
How 'bout all of us in those early years "#Whodidn'toftenenough!
There’s a huge difference between an affair and an assault. An “affair” (especially a long-term one) implies consent on both parties. If there was coercion involved — then it’s an assault, not an affair.
Time changes all it pertains to, that for sure.
(Stole that line from Merle Haggard.)
Oxford and Merle, ay?
That’s a good pair to draw to, all right.
