Yes, they do it in error.

It was never a name for God in the Scriptures. Not once.

No surprise many of them can’t differentiate.

“It was never a name for God in the Scriptures. Not once.”

That’s incorrect.

“Allah” is Arabic. The original scriptures were not Arabic or English. (In fact, English did not even exist.) The Bible was originally Hebrew and Greek.

So “God” is only in our English Bibles because that is the English title for God. In Arabic Bibles, both Jewish and Christian translations, “Allah” is always used when referring to God by His title.

Furthermore, “Allah” has been the Arabic title for God long before there was an English Bible or English title for God. (He was also called “Allah” in Arabic long before Islam existed.) There were Arabs present when the Church began on the day of Pentecost nearly two millennia ago. On that day, it appears that only Jews were present, but many were from remote regions and had various primary languages. Some of these Jews spoke Arabic. And, as far as history can tell us, “Allah” was the word they used for God all the way back then.

That being the case, God would have been referred to on the very day the Church came into existence as “Allah” in the hearing of those who were natively Arabic speakers.

Acts 2:4-12
And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
And there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaven. And when this sound occurred, the multitude came together, and were confused, because everyone heard them speak in his own language. Then they were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, “Look, are not all these who speak Galileans? And how is it that we hear, each in our own language in which we were born? Parthians and Medes and Elamites, those dwelling in Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya adjoining Cyrene, visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabs—we hear them speaking in our own tongues the wonderful works of God.” So they were all amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “Whatever could this mean?”

Pay particular attention to the word “Arabs” above. What was the native word for God to these Jewish people? If you look at the Arabic translations of Old Testament scriptures, you will find that it is “Allah.”

So, on the day of Pentecost, the day the Church began, the day when the Holy Spirit came, followers of Christ proclaimed God’s message of salvation and was heard by these Jews in their native languages. One of those languages appears to be Arabic. This means when they heard about God, the word used to identify God to them was “Allah.”

This is why it is important for Christians to be careful about mocking “Allah.” Islam did not invent “Allah.” They simply commandeered His title like all false religions do.

I’m sure you recognize that not all who identify themselves as “Christian” are true followers of Jesus. But you also recognize that it would be wrong to mock Jesus because of those who misrepresent Him. Jesus is also only the English name for the Savior. The sounds we make when pronouncing His name are not the same sounds that people used when they called Him by His name back then. So, hopefully you can appreciate why I am addressing the importance of not maligning the title “Allah,” not out of respect for the false religion of Islam, but out of respect for the one, true God.
