The flood of refugees that rolled over Europe in 2015 affected Austria more than any other country except its neighbor Germany. Today, Austrians go to the polls in parliamentary elections that could elevate a 31 year old nationalist to the chancellorship.
Sebastian Kurz, the charismatic leader of the Austrian People's Party (OVP) left the coalition government with the Social Democrats when he was elevated to the party's top spot last May. The cause of the split was the ongoing debate over refugees in Austria, who have put a huge drain on government resources.
Austria is a conservative Cathloic country and it's politics has been dominated by right of center parties since the end of World War II. But the tide of nationalism that has swept Europe has brought to the fore not only the OVP, but also the far right Freedom Party (FPO), which is also set to make large gains in the election.

Only 30% of the population voted to stop the raping muslim moochers?
Hey still have a long way to go.
More like native Austrians demanding the human rights they deserve even if they are white.
Europe is gonna get real interesting the next few years I think.
Thanks to “leaders” like Merkel, etc. JMHO
Oops, should have pinged you, too.
I hope Austria is compassionate toward their refugees and toward the countries those people came from, and toward the Austrian people.
The refugees who are good, decent, honest, hard-working people are desperately needed in their home countries and should be returned so they can help restore stability for the millions who lacked the resources to flee. The other refugees should be returned to their real homes for the safety of the Austrian people. Either way, send them home, build a wall, and cut off the welfare money that leaves the predators among them free to prey on the innocent.
In a brief conversation with the wife of an academic who was relocating his family to Austria I mentioned a muslim takeover, even before the latest suicidal influx.
“Oh, thy can’t vote,” she said.
Unable to stifle a grin I replied, “Do you honestly believe that’s going to make a difference?”
This does not sound good.
Thanks, Merkel, for starting WWIII. I think America should sit this one out, though.
To paraphrase Homer Simpson, "Academics (and their spouses) ... what don't they know?" LOL!
GOOD!!!!
[Oh, thy cant vote, she said.
Unable to stifle a grin I replied, Do you honestly believe thats going to make a difference?]
Oh my. Just like illegals don’t vote in the U.S.A. Or something.
I see she’s way too naive to think it’s about voting, too.
Just wow. Unrelated, but the paragraph I captured seems to apply here, too (of course).
[Some liberals, most of which are ego-soaked, look for ways to support their self-perceived importance so they champion imaginary causes for that purpose, Newburn said. They are adult-children who feel free to construct fantasies about their greatness. Their narcissism in part functions to blind them to inconvenient realities. So to compensate, they idealize the targets of their misdirected and pathological caring.”]
30 % for People party (OVP) + 27% for Freedom Party (FPO)
that’s more than 50 %
When I visited Austria a few years ago I could see the writing on the wall literally, Arabic graffiti spray painted on the old city walls.
It’s difficult, by definition, to “sit out” a world war.
