absolutely - it’s all about the daily demand curve.
We have 1,000 GW installed generating capacity. From 7pm to 7am less than 10% is used. We only demand peak capacity between 11 am to 5pm
It will be Unicorn-power rather than horsepower.
I would rather see these changes coming so I can adapt if necessary than get hit broadside. Of course I probably won't have much control over how it affects me either way and because I live in a fairly rural area; I don't expect it to affect those who live here for 30-50 years. Those in the cities though can expect it much much sooner. Especially places like L.A. where the smog is so thick it's like smoking a pack of cigs daily just living there. L.A. is a bowl so the smog just lays there until a strong enough wind blows it up and over the mountains into AZ or out to sea depending on onshore or offshore wind patterns.
When it happens; the transition from fossil fuels to electric won't be life changing. It will simply be different; an adaptation. Kind of like going from beepers to smart phones. In a way, for the sake of our FRiends in the L.A. basin, I do hope it happens sooner there than elsewhere in the USA. It would be the perfect petri dish to find out how it would work elsewhere. In a small way; CA could be a leader again in this experiment if it worked out and they could all breathe clean air again. It would still take a minimum of 10 years to transition; probably 15 and low income people would need to be subsidized.

Again where is all that power generation coming from? Do you see large scale building of nuclear power, massive coal or gas fired power stations? No.
So even 20 years down the road there still will not be enough power on the grid to power all electrical vehicles. And where does all the rare materials come from to build the batteries? Child slavery in Africa - who supports that?

Perfect analogy. "Logan's Run" where an overbearing government dictates your lifestyle and limits your movements. They want us to not drive at all. Only "special" government figures will be allowed to drive.
Other than to say we can definitely build more nuclear power plants if the will is there both politically and publicly; I agree with you. I’m in no hurry to transition over to e-vehicles. I like my ICE bikes, cars, and trucks.
The article I just posted earlier says it right. Let’s not rush into this transition; let’s let it happen naturally at its own pace. In doing so future technology will likely make it far more palatable for many of us. For instance; someplace hot or cold is going to need to use a lot of the battery power just to stay warm enough or cool enough to get where we are going in that little box. That power has to come from somewhere. Wireless charging lines in the roads? I dunno. It’ll probably be something no one has thought of yet.

There is no will to build more power plants of any sort, rather the opposite - close the coal-fired plants down while building more solar incinerators and bio-fuel farms - and you thought ethanol was a bad idea for the food supply - just wait ...
GM will end making gasoline powered cars in 2023 and go all electric. Can’t wait for the 2023 Corvette ...

I think lew rockwell is banned because they they are too conservative for most people here. We should realize many people here are big gov‘t types and worship leviathan. They are lots of gov‘t employees here. When you get a paycheck from the gov’t, lewrockwell is not going to be your buddy

What category is the plant? It’s not base load nuclear, so there are three other choices. Coal fired won’t turn down to 10%. It’s not a gas fired peaker plant—costs too much turned-down. Gas-fired combined-cycle best fits the described profile.
A grid does not have a 90% swing in total output at any time. The components switched into service to supplement for daily swings, and especially peaking, charge as much as three times more per unit of electrical output.

good points - certain peaked plants ARE very expensive to operate. But many are not. The newer NG fired peaker plants could easily run 4,000 hours/year instead of 1,500. Prices might even drop because of better fixed cost utilization.
