The fronts in these fires move faster than alcohol and only a bit slower than gasoline ignites if poured out on a surface.

Before a source of ignition arrives at some point, that point, given these winds, has been heated and dried and the air is hot. If the item is flammable, it is probably by that point emitting flammable or at least flammable vapors. When the spark hits, whatever can be burned literally bursts into flames.

My brother’s house in Ukiah burned to the ground. The neighbor said it took less than 5 minutes from the time the guilty ember landing on the roof for the house to be fully engulfed.

There’s no outrunning these kinds of fires, they can easily advance at 30+ mph.

That is truly disturbing but totally believable.

Embers blowing at 30-40 mph (or more) started fires well ahead of the main fire. Fires broke out way ahead of the warnings.

I was curious about that and Googled it a few days ago, California has graciously increased the distance you can legally clear brush around your house from 30 feet to 100 feet. Not sure how much difference that would have made with the winds they are dealing with.

He said they caught SIX people trying to start fires in Santa Rosa.

That's possible after Sunday night. But on Sunday night the fires started by wind-blown embers. Winds were up to 80 over the hills and at least 30-40 in the valley.

Puerto Rico was category 4. Much weaker than the 1928 hurricane there.

I am starting to wonder if these wild fires were set.

I know a bunch of them were whining a few years ago about controlled burns polluting atmosphere and hurting their view of the skyline. They’d rather lose the controlled burns and have their entire neighborhood go up in an inferno. It’s that California logic.

Clearing brush would make little difference in the Sunday night ember storm. Check out the pictures from the neighborhoods, houses completely burned to the ground with intact trees between them. The problem was none of the houses were ember proof, and the trees were.

He said they caught SIX people trying to start fires in Santa Rosa.

For some reason the media is NOT reporting this.

Probably MUSLIMS. ISIS was calling upon the American MUSLIM community to start setting fires.............

If they ARE MUSLIMS, the MSM will ignore the arrests and talk about Purvey Weinstein’s latest accuser.............

Probably pulling a Ray Nagin: disaster happening and he’s 300 miles away getting drunk.

Jerry Brown conspicuously absent.

Nope, he came out quickly to blame this on Global Warming and the Climate Change deniers.
In Jerry’s world, fires, hurricanes, droughts, floods, tornadoes, etc., are all caused by Global Warming (and the Climate Change Deniers). And earthquakes are caused by fracking (caused by evil big oil).

Cloudcroft, NM, 2000. The Otero County electric co-op requested permission from the US Forest Service to trim some trees away form the transmission lines. This was denied due to “spotted owl habitat”. Eventually a major fire was started by trees coming in contact with the power lines, almost taking out the village of Cloudcroft. In the aftermath were quite a few well done spotted owls.

Such people should be hanged in public.
