CHICAGO—U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) released the following statement after President Trump signed an executive order further targeting and destabilizing the Affordable Care Act:
“Make no mistake—after spending nine months repeatedly trying and failing to repeal the Affordable Care Act, President Trump is sabotaging America’s health care system and hurting working families to make a political point. His tactics are well documented: President Trump issued an Executive Order instructing federal agencies not to enforce the law, cut the open enrollment period in half, cancelled television and radio ads that educated people about how to enroll for insurance, slashed funding for patient navigators and outreach efforts, and refuses to commit to paying the cost-sharing reduction subsidies that help keep health care costs lower for working families.
“Instead of joining in a bipartisan effort to strengthen our current health care system and help Illinois families, President Trump is continuing his sabotage and hurting countless Americans in the process.”

(Washington, D.C.) – Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA), top Democrat on the Senate health committee, today issued the following statement on President Trump’s executive order intended to undermine the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and cause further confusion in our health care markets.
“The policies President Trump is announcing today are the latest and worst in his yearlong effort to create Trumpcare by sabotage. They will force patients across the country to pay more for their care, lose quality coverage options, and find themselves with surprise medical bills when they can least afford it.
“As we’ve seen again and again this year, the only way to get results for patients and families on health care is to work across the aisle and find common ground—and we’re doing exactly that in the Senate to try to stabilize the market and protect people from some of the damage President Trump’s health care sabotage has caused.
“The President has made a lot of promises to families about their health care, and if he truly wants to keep them, he’ll stop trying to create Trumpcare by sabotage, accept that repeal is off the table, and support Congress in getting our work done for patients and families.”

Durbin seems angry, as if he has investments in insurance companies or something and he’ll personally take a financial hit.
