Roger Goodell tells NFL owners ‘everyone should stand for the national anthem’
Kansas City Star ^ | 10-10-2017 | Pete Grathoff

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on Tuesday wrote a letter to all 32 league owners regarding the protests that have taken place during the national anthem, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported.

In the letter, which Schefter shared on his Facebook page, Goodell wrote that the “current dispute over the National Anthem is threatening to erode the unifying power of our game, and is now dividing us, and our players, from many fans across the country.”

Last year, former San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick sat down and later took a knee during the playing of the national anthem as protest against racial injustice. More players have joined the protests and President Donald Trump spoke out against the activity in September and has continued to do so.

Chiefs cornerback Marcus Peters has sat during the playing of the national anthem at every game this season.

How about, stand, hand over your heart, no talking, no power signs, no arms locked, etc.

How about suspending players that give a black power salute after tackling a white player?

Too late. Its meaningless if they are forced to do it against their will. We now see them for what they are and we don’t respect them any more.

They shot your brand in the foot. That’s just how it is.

His real message: If this situation continues, I will get fired. Therefore, let’s pretend to be patriotic.

For the next shoe to drop, Trump needs to ban the military from participating in any NFL event, including advertising, color guards, fly overs, anything. Pull the plug.

For the reason for his about-face, you simply need to look at his contract.

Roger Goodell Said to Be in Line for New Five-Year N.F.L. Contract, New York Times, August 21, 2017

“The level of compensation is, to a large degree, about the business health of the league and the increase in value of the franchises,” said Marc Ganis, a consultant to several N.F.L. teams. “The three biggest assignments for the commissioner are collective bargaining and matters related to the players; increasing fans’ interest; and keeping the business healthy.”

The extension, first reported by Sports Business Journal, reflects the owners’ satisfaction with Goodell’s stewardship over the business of the league.

Goodell’s compensation came into focus after the previous collective bargaining agreement was signed in 2011. The following year, the commissioner was paid $44.2 million in total compensation. That figure, released as part of the league’s annual tax filing with the Internal Revenue Service, included a $9.1 million bonus that he deferred during the recession. Even so, Goodell’s compensation was on par with that of some of the best-paid executives in the country.

Typically, Goodell has been paid a salary of about $4 million, with the rest of his compensation coming as bonuses and other benefits. Goodell’s bonus is calculated in part on new business deals he brought to the league the previous year.

In 2014, for instance, Goodell received $34.1 million even though the league was tarnished by how it handled domestic violence cases involving several star players. Yet that year, the N.F.L. also signed major sponsorship and broadcast deals, increasing the league’s total revenue.

However, there is a twist...

Report: Jerry Jones Impeding Roger Goodell Contract Extension Talks, Sports Illustrated, September 17, 2017

Dallas Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones has "impeded" contract extension negotiations for NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, reports ESPN.com's Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen.

According to the report, Jones is being labeled as the reason that Goodell has not completed the contract extension. It was thought that Goodell would have a new deal by the team this NFL season started. A conference call with the league's compensation committee is expected to take place on Wednesday. "This is about money and a guy (Goodell) making way too much money on a grossly stupid contract for the job," a source told ESPN.com.

What a coincidence! BOTH Goodell AND Jones have fallen in line and are telling the black supremacists to knock it off.

It’s in the Game Book (not the rule book as has been reported).

There are laws/rules re how to behave when our National Anthem is being played.

301(b) 36:171. June 22, 1942, ch. 435, §6, 56 Stat. 380; Dec. 22, 1942, ch. 806, §6, 56 Stat. 1077; July 7, 1976, Pub. L. 94–344, §1(18), 90 Stat. 812.
Amendments
2008—Subsec. (b)(1)(A) to (C). Pub. L. 110–417 added subpars. (A) to (C) and struck out former subpars. (A) to (C) which read as follows:
“(A) all present except those in uniform should stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart;
“(B) men not in uniform should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold the headdress at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart; and
“(C) individuals in uniform should give the military salute at the first note of the anthem and maintain that position until the last note.

If the NFL thugs and owners don’t like the national laws re respect to our flag and national anthem. They should get them changed, like those, who don’t like our immigration laws should do instead of breaking the laws.

Stand up, sit down, take a flying leap off the stadium.

It’s your right to protest, and mine to protest against the NFL and spoiled liberal athletes.

Before he gets fired, he’s going to lose $10 million in bonuses. He took a (very stupid) calculated risk that these black protests were somehow going to increase the value of the league and bring in more business deals upon which his bonus is calculated.

This is instructive about liberal thought processes...they thought every football fan in the US was going to shout “Yeah!! Those black players have a point! The US really sucks and is unjust. The National Anthem is horribly racist. I’m going to support their protests by buying all sorts of NFL advertised merchandise!”

That’s what happens with liberal group-think.

“Roger Goodell tells NFL owners ‘everyone should stand for the national anthem’”

still too chickenshit to use the “must” word.
