Police found a note in the hotel room of Stephen Paddock, the gunman behind the mass shooting in Las Vegas, that had hand-written calculations about where he needed to aim to kill as many people as possible.
In an interview that will be aired Sunday on CBS's "60 Minutes," Officer Dave Newton from the Las Vegas Police Department's K-9 unit said he noticed a note on the shooter's bedside table after officers entered the room. The note was next to one of the windows that Paddock smashed with a hammer to clear an opening to fire into the crowd from his 32nd-floor hotel suite at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.
"I could see on it he had written the distance, the elevation he was on, the drop of what his bullet was gonna be for for the crowd," Newton said. "So he had had that written down and figured out so he would know where to shoot to hit his targets from there."
Using semi-automatic rifles that he modified with a "bump stop" to increase their rate of fire, Paddock on Oct. 1 killed 58 people and injured nearly 500 others. Paddock, 64, killed himself with a gun before police entered the room to find his body and 47 weapons.
More than 20,000 people were attending the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival when Paddock began shooting into the crowd, which was about 400 yards away.

Seriously. Imagine a bunch of civilians returning fire to the hotel. We don’t ever want that.
Security guard was there in 4 minutes. That is key to understanding how the shooter was put down.
What about those perfectly legal automatic rounds that he used also.

Why didn’t he book a suite on a lower level such as 12-20.
Throw in a few tracers and he’d have been set. Still, it was fish in the barrel. No rocket science.

maybe he had help elsewhere to increase the kill...

he did this to kill people but he also did it to make some evil point..
I’ve wondered with all the smoke, why didn’t the sprinklers come on? Maybe that’s something else they’re covering up.
The only “someone” in the crowd who would have had a chance at taking him out from more than a football field of height x more than a football field of distance would be a Seal or Ranger with a night vision scoped long gun, a tripod, or VERY steady arms.
Hard enough shot without being under fire and surrounded by a panicked crowd.
I’ve wondered the same thing. What happened to all the coverage? It seems we’re not hearing from the Sheriff now, but the under-sheriff. Unless Lombardo was completely exhausted and needed some down time, which makes sense.
But the coverage has just kind of dropped off. It seems strange, especially since we haven’t been given a motive. I’m assuming LE knows a lot more than has leaked. The only reason I can imagine for them not revealing it all is they have concern that there are others involved they’ve yet to identify.
We’ve yet to hear what door was ajar. It couldn’t have been a guest room because people leave those ajar all the time. If it was the stairwell, then how could it be blocked and ajar at the same time? Fishy.

If his accomplice didn’t show, then why continue? Or at least call the valet and have his car brought around, park it over there himself and take a taxi back. He’d have been delayed a few minutes but it wasn’t like the music crowd was going anywhere. They’d have still been there.
It been reported on FOX there was a phone charger that didn’t fit his phone.
Do hookers charge their phones while they’re otherwise occupied? Or did she steal his phone that matched the odd charger.
Wonder how many other meals he ordered for 2 guests.
He was switching guns, probably to delay overheating.
My guess is the missing rifle was supposed to light up his car right after the shooting began. So he realized his partner had messed up, escape now not possible, so he continued firing and went down swinging.
Really? WTH. I wonder if that’s true. If it is, I’d expect to start seeing some real leaks from “officials close to the case”...
There were a few rounds fired before he started with the long bursts.

You can hear a few cracks first suggesting the first few rounds were coming in the direction of the person recording. The long bursts come later.
