In a daylong visit to the Bay Area on Friday, Hillary Clinton warned of “a new kind of Cold War” in a Stanford University speech and met cheering fans at a San Francisco bookstore.
The former secretary of state and Democratic presidential nominee criticized Silicon Valley tech companies for allowing Russian agents to influence the 2016 election and called for the U.S. to take a hard line on Russian aggression.
“Their weapon of choice is not tanks or missiles, but let’s not mince words: This is a new kind of Cold War and it is just getting started,” she told about 500 students at the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
Clinton said that the Russian government worked to “throw the election” to President Donald Trump, a conclusion shared by U.S. intelligence agencies. She warned that future U.S. elections will continue to be big targets for Russian hackers.
In order to defend against more attacks, she urged the Trump administration to adopt a “new doctrine” that “a cyberattack on our vital infrastructure will be treated as act of war.”
