Told them there was an active shooter on campus and instructed them to call the police. Remember, the usage of the word “made” was the choice of word by the twitter user tweeting the comment.
My daughter texted us from USC to let us know that this was going on. Fortunately she was not in the building where the event was supposed to have taken place, but it was a very worrisome 30 minutes until we got the all clear from her.
I typically do not make a fuss, but if this story bears out to be true, the President of the University will hear from me. At the very least this is completely unacceptable.

Correct though - some student could have said, “This is a crime. This is wrong. F*** you” and walked out of the class.

Just a quick check on Google shows USC tuition is $50,000+ and with books & living expenses $70,000 per year.
It attracts more than its share of high-functioning psychopaths.

Students may not have had any idea it was a false report. We don’t know yet. Perhaps (speculation) prof came in door after students were seated, yelling for them to call 911 about a shooter in the building. Would anyone, as a student, think the prof was making it up or wait to hear gunshots nearby?? Of course not.

only university intellectuals are so stupid as to not immediately understand what the ‘best course of action is going to be”, namely immediate termination of employment. Prof precipitated false police reports which is a crime, while carrying out paid duties on company time in company facilities.
