ESPN 'will not carry' national anthem before Redskins-Chiefs on 'Monday Night Football'

ESPN will pass on showing live player protests during Week 4 of the NFL season. The Disney-owned network told Sporting News it won't air the playing of the national anthem before Redskins vs. Chiefs on "Monday Night Football."

The NFL's TV partners normally do not show players before the unfurling of the American flag and singing/playing of the national anthem, except before the Super Bowl and other select games. But given viewer interest around players staging demonstrations last week, ESPN, Fox Sports, NBC Sports, CBS Sports, NFL Network and DirecTV all provided live anthem coverage during Week 3.

SNIP

NBC Sports says it will televise the live the playing of the U.S. national anthem before the Colts at Seahawks on "Sunday Night Football" (8:30 p.m. ET).

ESPN told Sporting News it won't televise the singing of "The Star-Spangled Banner" before its "Monday Night Football" matchup of Redskins vs. Chiefs.

On Sunday, CBS Sports televised the anthem live before its game telecasts.

Meanwhile, Fox Sports showed the anthem from the 9:30 a.m. ET matchup of Saints-Dolphins in London -- but declined to show it for later U.S.-based games such as Buccaneers-Giants.

You’re right. They have no clue how deeply offensive what they have done is.

I suspect ESPN isn't doing this to avoid showing players protesting. They're probably doing this to avoid showing players all standing respectfully for the national anthem ... because nobody in the NFL or its TV affiliates wants to publicly admit that they've capitulated to President Trump.

Any network or broadcast medium that refuses to air or show the anthem will never be watched again by me.

Nor will I patronize their advertisers.

You will not hide them, and you will not hide.

and the networks think not showing the Anthem will make the anger the fans feel go away?

No, but it will deprive these protesting SOB's of their opportunity to spit in the faces of millions of fans.

Additionally, through the grapevine, the fan base will find out which teams and players protested.

Thus, the players will experience the negative results of their shameful actions, but will get no positive benefit, by virtue of not having their unpatriotic virtue signalling broadcast to millions of NFL fans around the country and the world.

The arrogant, spoiled, selfish, ignorant, misguided, un-American, millionaire NFL players don't even realize that they are serving as useful idiots for the extreme Left.

By broadly disrespecting and insulting their own fan base, they have truly opened Pandora's Box, and will now be reaping the consequences of their foolishness and stupidity.

The kneeling NFL puppets are collectively a bunch of "bubble boys". It's incredible that they chose to act in total disregard of their fans—as if the fans didn't even exist.

These clowns act as if their multimillion dollar contracts magically drop out of the sky like manna from heaven, instead of being directly related to the quality and enjoyment factor of the entertainment product which they present—a game played on a field with an oddly-shaped inflated ball.

Their ignorance as to where their money actually comes from is breathtaking. But they will learn quickly enough, as the NFL experiences a steady decline in viewership, game attendance, merchandise sales, and—ultimately—player salaries.

Stupid is as stupid does. They have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind...

This accomplishes two things.

1-Admission by the networks that the protests are not popular and bad for business. This is a defensive move

2-It drastically limits the audience of the protest just the 40,000 fans at the game and from the upper deck, likely not visible to many.

My theory is that teams that have protesters, lose their games. Miami, Baltimore, Cleleveland, Oakland. It is divisive and polarizes the team.

I hope MLB will continue the post-9/11 Tradition of singing “God Bless America” during the 7th Inning Stretch during the Playoffs. They have a golden opportunity here, don’t blow it.

Regardless, I think damage has been done. Players could march on field with flags in hand, etc. I don’t think it wins many of the fans back...

Exactly, because we all know now that they would only be doing it for the money.

They tipped their America hating hand and the game is now over.

They are now just beginning to realize it.

the next few months should be very entertaining.

Why don’t they just show the flag waving in the air and scenery of our nation With The Star Spangled Banner playing on TV and then when it’s over show the game (if people are still watching this crap). That way they get the benefit of our national anthem but don’t have to see the immature, crybaby, useless, “Legends in their own mind” a-hole players on the field being disrespectful. Or better yet cancel the contracts find something else to do on Sundays and Mondays

WE need to ask our Kansas City brethren to do the conservative movement a solid, and blast on all available conservative sites: DON'T GO TO THE GAME! Protest outside.

Imagine 70% or lower attendance at Arrowhead on MNF, the loudest stadium in the NFL, with a rising Chief's team in fly-over country, the proverbial "Cow Town."

And pin it on Marcus Peters, Chris Conley, Alex Smith, and the rest of the organization that took Lamar Hunt's team and gave the finger to its fanbase.
