The NFL controversy is impacting the Packers vs. Bears game Thursday at Lambeau Field. Green Bay Police officers have been told to be extra vigilant during the national anthem.
Tensions are high over this issue, and police want to make sure nothing gets out of hand in the crowd.
Packers players released a statement Wednesday sharing their plans. They will lock arms like they did this past Sunday, and they're urging everyone who attends the game, to do the same.
The team's statement reads in part: "It will represent a coming together of players (and people) who want the same things that all of us do - freedom, equality, tolerance, understanding, and justice for those who have been unjustly treated, discriminated against, or otherwise treated unfairly."
This comes after President Donald Trump had harsh words for NFL players who kneel or sit during the National Anthem and their team owners.
On Sunday, three Packers players sat on the bench during the national anthem.
There are people on both sides of the issue, who are extremely passionate about their own viewpoint.
Coach Mike McCarthy says he's proud of the way his players are handling it.
"Like anything in life, you're never going to have everybody feel 100 percent the same way, but it's just something that we talk about a lot as a football team, because I always want to make sure the 'why' we are we doing something is explained," McCarthy said. "To me there's a lot of things that are being said, but more importantly I think it's a time to listen. I think everybody can do a better job of listening, and make sure the messages that are trying to be delivered are heard."
Note to NFL and the once-great Pack...
Locking arms instead of standing and facing our Flag with respect during our National Anthem, is equal to...
Kneeling instead of standing and facing our Flag with respect during our National Anthem which is equal to...
Mooning our Flag, our Country, and us Veterans.
You cannot claim that this is for unity when you are achieving only deep, deeper, and deepest division.
Next step?
A new, and competing professional football league. (It will happen, it will succeed.)
I understand your sentiment, my good FRiend, but consider an alternative approach.
What if the season ticket holders attended the pregame tailgate, then went to their seats in time to stand proudly for "The Star Spangled Banner", then left their seats as soon as the players disgrace themselves and insult us patriotic fans?
The empty seats would be there for the cameras for the remainder of the game.
I checked the voting figures for Brown County Wisconsin, Major city Green Bay. This for the 2016 election.
Trump/Pence 52.10%
Clinton/Kaine 41.37%
Might have some effect.
If these a-holes want equality here it is:
Race and ethnicity
Race / Ethnicity
Number
Percentage of U.S. population
Americans 308,745,538 100.0 %
Non-Hispanic White 196,817,552 63.7 %
Non-Hispanic Black 37,685,848 12.2 %
Non-Hispanic Asian 14,465,124 4.7 %
Non-Hispanic American Indian or Alaska Native 2,247,098 0.7 %
Non-Hispanic Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander 481,576 0.2 %
Apply this to your teams and you should be very happy.
I like your alternative approach as it honors our flag and demonstrates our disgust at the same time!
I look for violence at some point. This has risen to a very high emotional heat. The demonstrators have gotten their symbolic asses whipped but I fear that is not the end of this. People are really pissed!!
Why? It’s not the patriots that get violent and cause trouble.
“The empty seats would be there for the cameras for the remainder of the game. “
The networks have the camera angles mapped where the crowd is never shown.
I can’t believe the packers are doing this. They used to be so much better than to get into the fray on stuff like this.
If you are in uniform, you render a right hand salute, if you are a civilian you place your right hand over your heart. In either case you stand at attention.
The way things are going, the anthem will be eliminated altogether as is the sub goal of other goals subsequent to killing this country. When the country loses its identity and what it stands for, it will stand for nothing. The left is one big NOTHING.
Their Board of Directors sits in an ivory tower.
They’re getting roasted.
I think that the moment one of these overpaid dipwads kneels, the band and the singer should stop immediately, allowing the crowd several minutes to boo and jeer while security removes the offending player. Then the Anthem can be resumed.
If they have to do it twenty times in a row until all the offenders are removed, maybe the owners will finally do their patriotic duty and start firing these spoiled brats. Let the owners lose players, games and money, since they were too lame to enforce their own contracts until this got way out of hand.
Nonsense. It will represent those who object to black criminals being shot by white cops.
It sure does. One click and they count it as viewing.
...and justice for those who have been unjustly treated, discriminated against, or otherwise treated unfairly.”

Finally! Someone standing up for all of the white college students!
