Paul was a saint, Mitch ain’t.

Paul wasn’t a saint before he was struck down on the way to Damascus.
That’s debatable. You see, Paul was predestinated by the foreknowledge of God. His getting saved was no surprise to God.
Now that is NOT to say that some are chosen for heaven and some chosen for hell - it IS saying that God knows beforehand who will and who won’t - and directs their paths even in their unconverted state.
