Again, my recollection was that there were various other documents, of a more administrative nature, involved in actually joining the Army, and that it was those that actually mentioned communism (and several other things). But yes, the Oath would tend to make it difficult to endorse communism.

I should note that the Oath you posted is the Enlisted version. The Officer version is slightly different:

I, _____, having been appointed an officer in the Army of the United States, as indicated above in the grade of _____ do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservations or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office upon which I am about to enter; So help me God.” (DA Form 71, 1 August 1959, for officers.)

He is looking to get out of the military service AFTER he received his education. He should serve his military term peeling potatoes!

Before I was commissioned, I had to undergo a background check for a Secret clearance. I was specifically asked about Communism. I guess they don’t anymore?

Actually, if he lied on a security or background check form, he might get to peel them ‘taters at Leavenworth

Twenty five years ago, I graduated USMA...and I don't know how the hell it got this bad.

Even the seemingly minor aspects of this blow my mind.

For example - in the photo where he has 'Communism will win' in his hat, he is clearly in the cadet only area, about to participate in a parade...iow, the person who took the photo was also a cadet...who apparently didn't have any problem at all with the message.

Haircut - too long. Sideburns - too long.

The photo of him with the Che shirt beneath - at a minimum his roommate saw him put it on...and again apparently saw no problem with it...its not even the 'Che' image, its the fact it isn't an official uniform part that is striking. In the photo, this guy is a senior cadet (clearly with prior combat military service)...yet its acceptable to his peers to set such a poor leadership example and run off to parade out of uniform?

The Che shirt photo is also at the stadium - IOW this is taken immediately after graduation (there is no other reason to ever be at the stadium in full dress uniform). So this is the moment where cadets from around the country have their families around them, LT Bar pinning ceremonies are going on, newly minted LT's are getting their first salutes as real officers, and there is a sense of pride and newfound responsibility in the air - and this guy opens up his dress coat? With the exception of seeing a few cadets undo their top collar clasp, I have NEVER seen a cadet unbutton his dress coat in front of the public like that.

It just shocks me that this guy seemed to have a 'too cool for school' attitude, yet his superiors and peers didn't let that stop him from getting a commission...and that's BEFORE we get to the commie loving part. Wow.

Oh, one last thing - the tradition is to THROW that hat upon graduation, after which children run on the field and grab a hat as a souvenir. He probably thought is was real cute to put his commie message in the hat, so some kid would pick it up...and NOBODY stopped him from doing that?!?! When I was a cadet, I was always amazed at how seldom we were told 'how to act'. We would go to the Army/Navy game...a huge opportunity to make the Corps of Cadets look bad, yet we never go lectured on what not to do - it was assumed that we were grown up enough to already know. Not anymore.

So West Point releases a statement about this traitor zoning in on its "regulations regarding the wearing and appearance of Army uniforms."

Nary a word about the fact that he espouses Communism and is an enemy of our Republic...plus he's likely to be not quite right in the head and could be a danger to his fellow West Pointers at any time.

Please keep us updated on this, Gamecock. I hope future statements from the Academy or the U.S. Army address the real issue here.

What’s the big deal? We just endured two terms of an identically minded pig of a POTUS and, not only did we not chastise him, we gave him a Nobel prize. (Which goes to show two things, viz. 1) Americans have become an incredibly stupid demographic and 2) the Nobel prizes are as significant as the Oscars.

I think he views himself as a ‘mole’ or ‘sleeper cell’. The photo of him in the Che shirt is at graduation...so he put the ‘communism will win’ note in his hat, knowing he would throw it in the air at graduation, and one of the kids who run onto the field and grab the hats...and he probably thought it would be a ‘hoot’ that they would read his commie note, know it came from one of the cadets, but not know which one. So I don’t think lying in his oath mattered a bit to him.

Well, he’s from NY and he’s a member of the Democratic Socialists of America.

DSA Congressmen from NY include:

Hon. Yvette Clarke (NY-11)
Hon. John Hall (NY-19)
Hon. Maurice Hinchey (NY-22)
Hon. Carolyn Maloney (NY-14)
Hon. Jerrold Nadler (NY-08)
Hon. Charles Rangel (NY-15)
Hon. José Serrano (NY-16)
Hon. Louise Slaughter (NY-28)
Hon. Nydia Velazquez (NY-12)

These socialists are the choice of voters in NYC area and Buffalo. Watertown is in the 21st district. It’s likely one of the socialists listed above.

On the other hand, maybe this guy just wants to get out of his obligation to serve after graduation and wants 15 minutes of fame.

I suggest dropping him into North Korea.
He should love it as it is paradise for a communist.

"What is this idiot a 12 year old?"

Yes. Here is what is going on here. I can tell that the Che shirt photo was taken immediately after graduation...and the photo of his hat was likely taken immediately prior to graduation parade/march to the stadium for graduation. Here is what they do with the hats (at the 3:40 mark):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUc9xXo8foY They throw them into the air...and if you keep watching, you will see that small children collect the hats and keep them. And one kid will have picked up a hat that says 'Communism Will Win'. He probably thought this was real clever and funny - IOW he is 12 years old.

From GlockTalk.com site where they are discussing this:

US Army commissioned officer oath of office:
I, _____, having been appointed an officer in the Army of the United States, as indicated above in the grade of _____ do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservations or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office upon which I am about to enter; So help me God." (DA Form 71, 1 August 1959, for officers.)

It's difficult to see how he is not violating his oath and should be tossed out of the service. He certainly had to have "mental reservations and purpose of evasion" when he took the oath.

There’s enough room in that t-shirt for both you and the blond.

At least it’s worth a try.

From U.S. Army "Rules restrict political activity by DOD personnel", January 5, 2012:

Military members, for example, may attend political meetings or rallies only as spectators and not in uniform. They're not permitted to make public political speeches, serve in any official capacity in partisan groups or participate in partisan political campaigns or conventions.

They also are barred from engaging in any political activities while in uniform.

A combat engineer assigned to the 416th Theater Engineer Company potentially violated these rules Jan. 3 when he stepped onto a stage at Ron Paul's headquarters in Ankeny, Iowa, during the Iowa Caucus to offer a personal endorsement. Although he was wearing his uniform, the Soldier was not in an active status at the time, Maj. Angela Wallace, an Army Reserve spokeswoman, confirmed.

Wallace emphasized that the Soldier "stands alone in his opinions regarding his political affiliation and beliefs, and his statements and beliefs in no way reflect that of the Army Reserve."

His chain of command is aware of the issue and is considering appropriate disciplinary action to take, she said.

Maybe dealing with strategy on NORK and Iran is taking all their time, but why doesn't Trump call Mattis and JCOS on the carpet and ask them why the hell this crap is going on?

I believe they stopped asking about membership in the communist party after the Cold War ended and during the Clinton administration.

They can only warn him about making a political statement in uniform. They can’t do anything about his political party. He’s not likely to be kicked out, although his intent may be to get a lawsuit going.

There has got to be more to this. He cannot be that stupid.

His army career is over and that is great. What does he get out of it now, a place next to whoopie on the view?
