First you need an I.R.S. commissioner that will put justice above politics.

Do we have one of those?

Why do they deserve an antitrust exemption?

In my view, no organization should be exempted from antitrust laws, including the government itself.

The NFL is a non-profit. The individual teams are not. The NFL as an entity is not engaging in political activity.

No. Because the owners of NFL teams are rich and will just pay off politicians and if a politician tries to remove tax except status a lot of fans will complain that will “ruin” the local economy. They would rather the owner of a sports franchise fly into their town and tell them to change the laws than ever think about their favorite ball team leaving.
You can vote for as many “no transexuals in a restroom” laws as you want but it just takes one rich sports team owner to tell you to change the law and its changed.

I’m sure Granny from Beverly Hillbillies (Sessions) will get right on it, after he attends a D.A.R.E. community meeting and announces a war on codeine cough syrup.

The NFL is now a ‘non-profit’ corporation.

It is past time to end that non-profit status for the NFL.

It’s so insane that this commercial enterprise has exemption from taxation. I can’t even believe that’s true. What madness.

This black racism is blowing sky high. I have never seen anything like it in my life. Trump has ripped the scab right off these anti American black atheletes and it is very infected.

The NFL dropped its nonprofit status two years ago. Attempting to rescind that status now is futile.

Threads about this subject are filled with ignorance all around.

1. The NFL has been designated as a non-profit corporation in the past because the league's profits are reported by the individual teams, not by the NFL.

2. I believe they gave up their non-profit status a few years ago. It is probably just an academic exercise anyway, since I'm sure they report almost no profits on their tax returns.

3. Under the law, there is a difference between what a regular non-profit corporation can do for political activity, and what a charity can do.

seems to me the NFL is nothing but a trade organization that uses collusion to keep other products off the table.

Vanity: Is the NFL Risking Its Tax-Exempt Status Engaging in Political Activity?

Liberals always threatened Churches. It's time the NFL had it explained to them why shutting up about politics was where they should have stayed.

They gave it up in 2015. According to USA, it was because of the flak over Goodell’s salary!

After more than 70 years as a tax-exempt operation, the NFL said Tuesday that its league office will relinquish its tax-exempt status and file as a taxable entity instead.

This was in 2015.
