Karl Rove on NFL Protests: Trump Will Be ‘Walking Away From This a Loser’
Breitbart.com ^ | 24 Sep 2017 | Pam Key

On this weekend’s broadcast of “Fox News Sunday,” network contributor and Republican strategist Karl Rove discussed President Donald Trump criticism of NFL players for taking a knee during the national anthem at games.

According to Rove, Trump would be “walking away” from this controversy a “loser.”

...

“He could have come away from this the winner,” he continued. “But he is walking away from this a loser in the minds of the American people for exactly the reasons you pointed out. He was against the federal government interfering and telling the Washington Redskins what their name should be. Now he is saying fire those people if they do not stand and respect the flag. He ought to be an aspirational figure. He should not be a condemnatory figure.”

Whether or not he’s going to have any lasting positive effect on the country is 100% dependent on whether or not he can put together a coalition that passes meaningful legislation.

That is a load of BS. In the first place, he has already had a “lasting positive effect” on this country. If Hillary had been elected the makeup of the Supreme Court would already have been altered in a way that would have already fatally wounded the future of our Republic. President Trump has already saved us from that.

As far as forming a “coalition that passes meaningful legislation”... The coalition is in place... its called the Republican Party. President Trump has bent over backwards trying to appease these RINO back stabbers but they will use any excuse in the book to not do what nearly all of them have promised to do. They can either grow some spines and start working for the country's best interest or face the wrath of the American public starting in 2018. Congress has a president who has signaled that he will sign just about anything that they send to him. They have got a blank check, they know it and they are blowing it.

I see President Trump fighting every single day to move things forward. And then I see our congressional leadership doing less than nothing. And you are blaming President Trump for this??? Because he hurt their feelings during the election? You have got to be kidding me! Wake up man!

The irony of Rove calling anyone else a loser is simply to thick to cut with a knife.

Not doing the same damage as Hillary is NOT a lasting positive effect. There’s a difference between avoiding a negative and actually making a positive.

He spent the whole primaries burning his bridge with the GOP. And done nothing since then to put any back. Functionally right now he’s an independent, alone in DC. There won’t be any 2018 backlash. Who are disaffected Trump supporters going to vote for? Democrats? Tea Party 2: This Time We’ll Actually Do Something? Congress has an over 90% return rate, meaning the vast majority of the folks Trump isn’t getting along with now will be sworn in again in 2019.

I see Trump spinning his wheels and making sure his enemies stay his enemies. He needs to remember how he build his empire and start making deals. Congress can wait him out, he’s term limited, they aren’t.

I think that you are dead wrong. President Trump has been working as hard as possible to keep his promises. The Republican congress has been ducking their promises completely. Regardless of your opinion to the contrary there likely will be severe consequences in 2018 if they keep it up. Their sham has been fully exposed... they were willing to send legislation modifying or ending Obamacare multiple times when they knew Obama would VETO it. Now that we have someone who will sign legislation we get absolutely nothing. And they and you are trying to blame President Trump for this? Astonishing!

It has become obvious that our Republican legislators are not who they say they are. And I say this as someone who has been a lifelong Republican and active and connected in local politics. This Obamacare repeal has been used as a ruse to get reelected. The Republican Party needs to straighten themselves out or they will once again snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

What we now have in Congress are a bunch of professional Prima-Donnas who think exactly the way that you do... “Who are disaffected Trump supporter's going to vote for?” Well this next time around they actually are likely to get their butts handed to them by an angry electorate. Because of their arrogance and unwillingness to take the exaggerated cues from the lawfully elected president from their own party... they are fundamentally changing the way that voters view them. They can either choose to get behind President Trump or watch the whole game descend into Chaos.

I’m not saying he’s not working hard. I said he’s spinning his wheels, he’s working really hard, and gaining no traction, and accomplishing nothing.

It’s not my opinion, it’s historical fact. Last year riding Trump’s “drain the swamp” rhetoric Congress’ approval rating was in the teens, and 98% of them were re-elected. People love complaining about Congress, but they keep re-electing their guy. And nobody is mounting a serious primary effort. By this time in Obama’s presidency the Tea Party was well established, it gave the GOP a serious challenge and a lot of losses in the primaries. Of course they still had a return rate of over 90%, but there were some high profile outs. So far nobody is stepping up to give Trump supporters tired of the GOP a serious option.

I’m blaming Trump for not bothering to understand the situation. Our government is designed the way it is for a reason, the methods of accomplishing this with this government are well known. He’s not bothering to understand the design, and he’s not bothering to use the methods. He needs to re-read his own book and start making deals.

It’s not the way I think, it’s the way I KNOW. This is how the system works. This is how the system has worked my entire life. This is how the system has worked your entire life. This is how the system has worked Trump’s entire life. The difference between a president that gets stuff done (Reagan) and one who doesn’t (Bush 2) is knowing how to work the system. Trump will either work the system or the system will work him. And there will not be chaos, there will simply be another return rate in the high 90s while Congress waits for him to go. He might be changing how voters talk, but he ain’t changing how they vote. They are going to re-elect almost all of this Congress. Just like always.

I’m not saying he’s not working hard. I said he’s spinning his wheels, he’s working really hard, and gaining no traction, and accomplishing nothing.

You think that you know it all, but you really haven't been paying attention. Congress hasn't done diddly squat since President Trump was elected. So legislative accomplishments have been basically nothing, but President Trump is not a legislator; he is an executive. You cannot blame him for the absolute and total failure of our Republican controlled legislative branch.

And as an executive President Trump has been accomplishing a great deal, and he has been making a substantial and positive difference in the direction of the country.. We hear about the challenges to his travel ban, but well over 150 other executive orders, memorandum and proclamations have been made, have mostly been unchallenged and have been making real differences. We hear about his appointment of Judge Gorsuch who appears to have been a brilliant pick, but we do not hear about the scores of other lower court appointments that the Trump administration has been making.

President Trump also backed us out of the Paris Climate Agreement which he promised to do. He has called off the attack dogs in the EPA. He has made a huge difference and changes in other agencies and Federal Bureaucracies as well. And the country has responded well in so many ways.

I understand completely where you appear to be coming from... you are a never-Trumper who will belittle President Trump until your dying breath. But it is not his job to pussy foot around and try to negotiate and cajole his own party to send him legislation to sign. It is their job to produce legislation that will help the country reverse course and be sent to his desk to be signed into law. They have shattered the illusions of their constituents and many will pay a price.

It is hard to believe that you can make so many invalid points in a post and then claim them to be “historical fact”. You sir, are not a good student of history, the constitution or the internal workings of the legislative, executive, and judicial branches of government. You appear to be very confused especially considering that you are “blaming Trump for not bothering to understand the situation”. You are the one who does not appear to understand or accept the current situation.

You assure us that everything is going to keep going as it always has, when the fact is that everything changes all of the time in unpredictable ways. President Trump winning the election is strong evidence of just that.

From the Gateway Pundit last summer, “President Trump is doing all he can for the American people and as a result the economy is on fire with the stock market reaching new all time highs once every four days! In nearly every economic category the US economy is improving under President Trump. In addition, President Trump has implemented numerous executive actions that he promised he would do when running for office. The US is in much better shape in only six months. Americans have hope again due to the real changes this President instituted from the economy to immigration.”

I have been paying attention. As you admit, Congress has done nothing, and his job is to work WITH Congress to get stuff done. I absolutely can blame him for not developing a team within Congress even capable of getting things to the floor. That’s his job. And he is failing at it.

Executive orders mean nothing. As we see with his own ending of DACA, all of his executive orders can, and probably will, be rescinded in the first month of his replacement’s presidency. There are nice things he did, but they won’t last. The meat of the presidency is getting laws passed.

Of course he really hasn’t backed us out of the PCA. We’re stuck in there for 4 years, so he’s going to need to be re-elected to actually make that stick. And he’s still open to negotiations.

I’m not never-Trump. So you clearly fail to understand anything. I’m pointing out where he has clearly failed. Sorry you can’t be bothered to see the truth. But that does change the facts on the ground. Which are:
he has gotten nothing to the floor
and at least 90% of Congress will re-elected next year

Nothing has changed. And anybody telling you it has is lying to you. Watch and learn. Write this down on your calendar for next year:
90% return return
Probably >95%
That is my prediction. When it comes to pass you will know I was right about everything. If it doesn’t start a thread, ping me to it, I will apologize.
