I actually watched that game on TV, Don Larson’s perfect game as well (I cut school to that one)
= = = = = =

Close, but no seegar...HA

1951—was the Bobby Thompson ‘Shot heard around the world’
2 out 3 run home run 3rd playoff game, bottom of the 9th,

Dodgers had 13 game lead in Aug

I believe Russ Hodges made the call and for ONCE, Red Barber was darn near speechless.

Don Larson PG was in 1956 WS, year after Brooklyn won it all for the first (and Last) time as the BROOKLYN DODGERS

OOPS...sorry misread your earlier... GUESS I MISSED THE COMMA...ha...

(WIll leave up for historical ‘fact’)

PS: Being a Brooklynite myself I can call them whatever I want. Streetcar or trolley car. My grandad growing up there called them streetcars one day and trolley car the next. Didn’t matter.

I’m a lifelong Phillies fan, but I love Tommy Lasorda, who turns 90 tomorrow. My best memory is from a game with the Phils, probably 1994. The Phils had 2 on when Lasorda walked to the mound to talk to the pitcher. He signaled for a righthander to come in to pitch to Charlie Hayes. Jim Fregosi races out of the Phillies dugout to point out that a pitching change had to be signalled before the manager crossed the foul line. Lasorda and Fregosi get into a heated argument. The ump tells Lasorda that Fregosi’s right. Lasorda storms back to the dugout. Hayes hits the next pitch into the left field seats. The camera immediately cuts to Lasorda, who looked like he was ready to kill someone.

if I were the dodgers, I would be very worried about the d-backs in a short series.

going to be a very interesting post season...things rarely play out like ESPN would want them to...

That is true. There aren’t any Lasordas or Earl Weavers or Billy Martins, who as soon as they walk out of the dugout stand a good chance of getting tossed.

I don’t really care if you were born at home plate of Ebbets Field, and YES, you can call them the Yankees if you want but please don’t try to tell me that.

From History of Brooklyn Dodgers...
The team name, Brooklyn Trolley Dodgers, was coined in 1895.[6] The nickname was still new enough in September 1895 that a newspaper could report that “’Trolley Dodgers’ is the new name which eastern baseball cranks [fans] have given the Brooklyn club.”[7]

You are correct, it is a moot point and really nothing to ‘argue’ about but.............

PS... I was born in the Bronx but was a Diehard Brooklyn Dodger fan ...

So my being a New Yawker should ‘explain’ why I am pursuing this....HA HA

PAX

My family and I escaped from Brooklyn when I was seven and moved to WA. But yeah, moot point and all. PAX.

GO HAWKS!

I cut school to watch 1960 Game 7, Yanks and Pirates, and saw Mazeroski's HR. As a Yankee fan I wished I had gone to school.

But yeah, moot point and all.

Well, maybe we could agree to call them the Brooklyn Bridegrooms then. They did win, either way, and Magic # is ONE.

Later on MASH did an excellent job of following that massive collapse.
It's one of my favorite episodes - I'm still a Yankee fan and still root for the Giants too :)

My cousin and his family were die-hard Dodger fans. Mine were die-hard Giant fans. I saw the ninth inning. After Bobby Thomson hit “The Shot Heard Around the World”, the stopped talking to us for six months.

Yes, they were known by many names.

I understand when O’Malley left he fixed not even a Little League team in Brooklyn could be called the ‘Brooklyn Dodgers’ and bars etc were banned from using it..

Almost like he just not only STOLE the team but also stole the name forever......

I still ‘like’ it the ‘old way’
BROOKLYN Dodgers, NEW YORK Giants, BOSTON Braves, ST LOUIS Browns, PHILADELPHIA Athletics,

Amazing that one city could SUPPORT 3 teams, each with their own personality and the fans more or less had the same....

They had a few other names as well. Some you can’t say in public though. :)

I was a diehard Dodger fan...
Then again, I was just ‘different’

EVERYBODY like Chevys, I was a Ford Person
EVERYBODY like Yankees, a few Giants I was the Brooklyn holdout.
Whatever the crowd went for, I tried to be ‘different’.

I even had one of the first cell phones (around 3 grand, hard wired) and got ‘mad’ when EVERYBODY was walking around with a cell phone and I tried to act like I didn’t have one.....

It isn’t easy being me...HA HA..

Like I said, “I really am Crazy, I just ‘act’ sane long enough to keep you guessing”...
