I suspect that there will be few fines levied, and the ones that end up having to pay will deserve it. Most people who are really in trouble will have their fines waived if they can show that they tried.”

There’s just a tiny little problem. It’s 6 hours after the hurricane has passed. There is no electrical power, streets are blocked with fallen trees, and building supply stores are not open.

The idiot government “worker” should have been helping them remove the trees. Typical government loser. Fire all these arrogant losers and their supervisors.

They may be spending time getting their house LIVABLE!!!!

Yep - took me a couple months of 16 hour days to make my place livable after Katrina - cleared enough to be able to get cares in and out and left everything outside alone until we had a skeleton set of living accommodations before I touched anything else.

The “idiot” government worker was doing what his boss, who wrote the paychecks, asked him to do.

That’s what I did,and I worked in the private sector.

They should quit instead of being malignancies supporting government harassment of Citizens in dire need. “I was only following orders” sounds familiar.

I had the same question about leaving the shutters up. Why is this a problem?

Never saw a concerned government worker break a sweat to actually help fix somthing they are so “concerned” about.

But they specialize in adding injury to insult.

A code violation is like using a “goto” statement.

Not only that but do you really think that 6 hours have the hurricane hit that lowes or home depot would be open? What if their fence was like gone?

I can see giving them a ticket two weeks from now or even a month but 6 hours????

They weren’t ticketed. They were given notice that a downed pool fence was a serious even life threatening hazard. Probably they were told a temporary barrier would be fine due to the circumstances.

Personally to me if you use existing poles it is a repair job and the new work grandfathered in under the old code. The exception would be if there was a safety hazard because of the poles being set 4 ft apart. Which I can’t imagine.

Read the article including the reply from Miami Dade. That is what the inspectors were doing. Notifying owners of serious safety hazards on their property. No fines were levied.

Code requires that bedroom windows serve as means of escape/egress in case of fire. Hurricane shutters do put a crimp in that. There are also code requirements regarding light and ventilation in a dwelling’s living space.

I live in Florida. I would hate for my house to be shuttered for several months. For me more of a concern is how are older people expected to put up these shutters as well as take them down. It is not easy.

Building codes, grandfathers, nor even the US Constitution mean a THING when you live in an enclave governed by the dreaded HOA.

Read the article including the reply from Miami Dade.

Use your head, if the inspectors had made clear their "benevolent" intentions form the start, there would be no article or the necessity of a "reply" from Miami Dade.

This is just a weasel way out when caught with a malicious attitude.
