RE: CNN has learned that the US is considering shooting down a North Korean ballistic missile even if it does not directly threaten the US or its allies.
We better be darn sure that we can hit it or this will be a major embarrassment to us.
Also, what if Fat Boy plays the game and continues shooting duds so that we continue to waste or anti-missiles on them?
...and just think of the rich harvest of US targeting and control data China and Russia can harvest from a live shoot!

You couldn’t be more right. Hitting such a target is not an easy and proven task!!
Target practice is never a waste of ammo. Every time we attempt to shoot down a target, the US forces gain valuable experience, leading to improved missiles.
I do agree that a miss, especially the first time against an NK missile, would be a very bad thing, but the first intercept attempt is just a matter of time, & it would be far better to miss a “dud” NK missile than a nuclear tipped one.
Those duds cost rocket-boy a few million apiece...
