You are spot on, and those thinking dealing with knife wielding attackers is easy simply haven’t adequately analyzed the body of evidence out there.
Carried a Buck 110 with diy thumb post, was introduced to the Spydercos thru my gal pal way back...in NYC.
If you need an EDC, the quickest I’ve found are the Kershaw Speed-Safe line, hands down. Prices are very reasonable for a high quality build. Employs your index finger, like a trigger, rather than thumb hole or post for shorter, more ergonomic motion path. Mine came with a thumb post as well. IMHO a 5 star.
Not only that, it was a lunatic with a knife who was probably drugged as well. A taser is not a magic spell. It can get hung on clothing or miss.
