Said it before and bears repeating. Sessions is a Trojan horse. He and other swamp things attached themselves to the Trump campaign as soon as it became apparent Trump would win the nomination. They were sent in to try to manipulate and box Trump in or, failing that, bring him down. It is the only explanation that fits all the known facts, including the speed with which the swamp arranged the Mueller appointment, and the threats from congress if Trump were to fire Sessions.
Sounds like the right explanation. As you said, it all fits.

Sessions supported Trump long before he had the nomination wrapped up, in FACT, he was the first major elected official to support him.
