Six Dreamers sue Trump administration over DACA decision

San Diego attorney Dulce Garcia has regularly defended clients in immigration court. Now, she is the one seeking legal relief.

Brought to the United States illegally by her parents as a child, Garcia is one of six immigrants who sued the Trump administration on Monday over its decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals.

Garcia’s case, filed in San Francisco federal court, is the first to be brought by DACA recipients. The daughter of a hotel housekeeper and a welder, Garcia arrived in Southern California from Mexico at the age of 4.

Garcia decided to become an attorney after working for a criminal defense lawyer in high school. She put herself through school working for lawyers and performing other jobs such as parking cars.

After Obama announced DACA in 2012, Garcia, now 34, seized the opportunity. When she filled out forms for a social security number in 2013, the government clerk congratulated her.

“I cried right there,” she said.

Legal experts have said court challenges to Trump’s decision could face an uphill battle because a president typically has wide authority in implementing immigration policy.

We’re no longer a nation of laws but a nation of lawfare.

Gimmie what I and my parents did not earn even if you take it away from those who did earn it.

This is what happens when the Rule of Law is tempered with political and cultural correctness rather than equity for INDIVIDUAL cases.

Trump sometimes a weak thinker much as I support him.

Since when can a sitting president be sued? Throughout our American history half the population disliked most of what the president signed into law - how come they were never sued? This is pretty stupid.

I hope all six will be deported and permanently barred from ever returning to our country. Illegally invading another country is not a right - it’s a crime.

I called the cops on a woman who claimed her SS was 123-45-6789 and much the same with her drivers license. Nothing was ever done.

'Trump is simply enforcing existing law'

If only they were. They are allowing them to stay. It's merely a adjustment of a already illegal EO.

Just imagine what a boon to Mexico, bringing in all that initiative and legal training. She should be encouraged to enhance her country's workforce.

I thought people “don’t have standing” to sue the government.
