Photos posted shortly after Maria left PR showed tree trunks already cut into pieces, and other folks actively using chainsaws. These are people who want to clear the roads and clean up their homes.

I posted an aerial video over Dominica earlier today. Wind and storm surge, along with mudslide damage. Painful.

I was watching pretty close as Maria came ashore. Winds in the eyewall did cross the Cat-5/Cat-4 boundary as the eyewall began edging onto land, but thex real dissipation came with the ERC. She was perking along at 170, maybe 175 mph, sustained, until an hour or two before the weird eye stuff started happening, and was down to 160 with pressure still dropping, when the outer eyewall had established dominance, and was still an hour out.

They can afford all kinds of new stuff. Creditors LOVE recent bankruptcies. Plus they still have BOXES of checks saved back.

Seen her recently? Incredibly intact given the last 20 hours, perking along, pressure dropping again. Sheeesh.

Some of the videos on YouTube are just beyond belief.

Last week a friend informed me that his son was in FL fixing the electricity. His next stop will be PR. He said that everything would have to be rebuilt from scratch. The underground power lines are exposed. Problem is all the debris in the way... and this is before Maria hit.

The kid is from Upstate NY. Said that they are having problems with the hydraulics which keep on breaking down. Also they have to wear pants and flannel shirts with a special liner to protect them from electrocution. They’re sweating buckets in the heat and are exhausted working overtime.

Apologies if this is the same Dominica video you posted earlier.

Dominica is a mess. Worse than Barbuda from what I can tell. Must have been the altitude and exposed building sites, as there isn’t huge evidence of rivers much out of their banks, but mudslides take time for percolation to generate mass wasting.

Damage levels suggest heavy casualties already, and with access to many populated areas limited by terrain to begin with, about the only thing can prevent additional mass casualties will be helicopter carrierS.

Long rough day, with dinner in sight. Youtube after. Losing that radar hurts.

All will be forgotten when the paycheck hits the bank.

Mom (she’s 75 years old) texted my sister via WhatsApp at 5:30 PM and said that it was still raining hard and that she was going to take a nap or possibly sleep because she is exhausted and stressed out. She’s sleeping in a mattress inside her closet because the winds are too strong to be in the bedroom and windows are broken all over place. She’s got some water inside her apt. and lives in a second floor of a three-floor building.

Dad is sleeping in the lobby of the hotel he stayed in last night. The room was not safe. He’ll leave tomorrow and survey the damage of his two apartments in a building which is 200 feet away from the Atlantic Ocean, very close to the Caribe Hilton. One of the apartments was my late grandma’s, which he just renovated and redecorated recently.

Material things are replaceable.

I was also proud of our President Trump - he’s been very supportive of the needs of the island as well as the USVI.

Thanks for your prayers and support — I too will ‘call it a night’ now as I’m mentally exhausted, first by Irma and now this gal Maria.
Best!

Outstanding that both of your parents have checked in!

Situation sounds dire. Good idea for all of you to grab some sleep. More long days ahead. God bless you all.
