Germany should be proud of most of its WW1 and WW2 soldiers.
They should revile Hitler, enemy #1 of the German people.

Belgian babies was British propaganda, nothing more. WWI Germany was no more depraved that Britain. In fact, most German soldiers had the right to vote during the war to make the world safe for Democracy. Almost no British soldiers could.
But the WWII German army “accomplished” nothing anyone sane could be proud of.

You are equating the Confederacy with WWII Germany?
Germans have a mature understanding of the difference between war criminals and those decent people who fought without losing their humanity.
We have a similar situation regarding Vietnam. Individuals like McNamara are despised by most Americans, but the grunts drafted into groundpounding are respected
And despite their leaders, I have the highest amount of respect for the Red Army soldiers who fought for their motherland, although some did some terrible things.

As a US Veteran and nephew of a US Veteran of the Second World War (who had a harrowing Purple Heart story to tell), I agree.
Soldiers.
Sailors.
Airmen.
Even such as Michael Wittmann, who was a Waffen-SS tank commander.
And the equally-evil Merkel is now their mother. And they have learned NOTHING.
Yes, both Hitler & Merkel have led Germany to destruction.
Like almost everywhere else, by and large it is the politicians that we should revile and be ashamed of. Most of the soldiers were simply common men.

After WWII, my Dad befriended two German soldiers who were POWs and held in a camp in upstate NY. When the war ended, they somehow managed to stay in the USA.
They were upstanding guys one was a very skilled carpenter and the other was an electrician at a steel factory. They married local girls had families and participated in the community like any good citizen. They felt very blessed to have found their way to the United States, considering they were in a war, for the other side. I never knew what they did before they were captured. We didn’t ask, and they didn’t tell.
