Trump Humiliated Jeff Sessions After Mueller Appointment
NY Times ^ | 09/14/17 | MICHAEL S. SCHMIDT and MAGGIE HABERMAN

WASHINGTON — Shortly after learning in May that a special counsel had been appointed to investigate links between his campaign associates and Russia, President Trump berated Attorney General Jeff Sessions in an Oval Office meeting and said he should resign, according to current and former administration officials and others briefed on the matter.

The president attributed the appointment of the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, to Mr. Sessions’s decision to recuse himself from the Justice Department’s Russia investigation — a move Mr. Trump believes was the moment his administration effectively lost control over the inquiry. Accusing Mr. Sessions of “disloyalty,” Mr. Trump unleashed a string of insults on his attorney general.

Ashen and emotional, Mr. Sessions told the president he would quit and sent a resignation letter to the White House, according to four people who were told details of the meeting. Mr. Sessions would later tell associates that the demeaning way the president addressed him was the most humiliating experience in decades of public life.

This whole Rooskie collusion thing was a made up IC attempt to Swamp Trump before he got started. Much of the IC management still needs a good purging. McMasters would be first on that list.

Session's doing this blunted lots of early momentum the whole Russian hoax caused. Session put the whole agenda at risk. This historic opportunity was put at risk because of Jeff Session's vanity concerning the honor of his reputation. The selfishness of it as I consider all of this is breathtakingly small minded.

This guy is a walking disaster in the administration.

You are apparently a good friend - because you defend your friends. I respect that. You know these people personally but now we all know them too - publicly.

I don't doubt Steve told you that Jeff needed to recuse but I don't buy it as it seemed to be surprise to the president. That he blindsided him with this is at the beginning inexcusable in this role. Then Rosenstein recommending the president fire Comey then appointing a special prosecutor because of it. Sessions is now gelded and tainted.

I hope I eat crow on this but from the perl clutching section of the peanut gallery he looking more and more like a bad guy.

If there is nothing to the Russian stuff he could have unrecused himself, he hasn't he has left the president, his benefactor, twist in the wind. What a stupid thing to do, piss off your new boss the president. But he is afraid of the press apparently - and learned nothing during the campaign.

From back here they (Sessions and Rod J. Rosenstein) look either stupid or crooked. I can't imagine you get to where they are by being stupid.

Redemption needs to happen in the form of him going after the crooks in the Obama administrations (Clapper, Rice, HRC, Loretta Lynch). Its unreasonable at this point for people to ask to give Jeff Session a pass like the pass he has given HRC et althem crooks.

Trump mistakenly thought Sessions had a pair.

Anyone remembered Snarlin Arlen was going to take down Cinton over Waco?

He is a traitor pure and simple

He may not be a traitor but how would it be any different if he was?

You make two good points. I guess traitor was a bit too strong word not a traitor like bradly manning but to the cause and to common sense. I really hope I'm wrong and they doing some deep cover sting but in our guts we know something not right here. But man he made it possible to bring a special prosecutor as fast as it could be done.

He has just acted and behaved so stupid - it looks suspicious I can't imagine he that dumb. What do I know other than he could recuse himself and stop this at anytime, but he doesn't - for me each day that goes by it becomes more and more telling. Remember this is a special prosecutor not an independent prosecutor - pretty sure the AG can, shutdown Mueller. Someone correct me if I am wrong here.

As usual, the Pubs fight by Marquis de Queensbury rules, while the RATS are streetfighters. Don’t say you’re going to resign Jeff, just do it.

Sessions is Bannon’s best friend?? Ok, that means Bannon sees Sessions as a serious, honest, highly intelligent man who believes in the same cause and has the fortitude to fight for what's right. Best friends are often temperamental opposites. There is a good story in this one.

Eh? It’s the NY Times. Who knows if it’s even true, since there isn’t a quote attributed to anybody who was in the room to hang this story on — other than Sessions’ own ‘woe is me’ comment that is.

Fake News
If anything, Trump is manufacturing the appearance of space between he and Sessions.

If (yeah i know) Sessions brings the hammer down on a contensious issue, Trumps political hands are clean

Just the opposite: according to Steve, if Sessions didn’t recuse, he would have been under investigation too. Everything would still be “blunted”, except there was NEVER going to be quick legislative action on Trump’s issues cuz Congress doesn’g want it.

“Muh Russia” an EXCUSE to not pass DT’s agenda. But don’t kid yourself: they were going to cind any excuse not to help him early.

Actually “Muh Russia” may benefit Trump. It showed he could take their best shot, do stuff without them, & come out unscathed. That WILL pay off.

Thanks for your explanation Actually “Muh Russia” may benefit Trump. It showed he could take their best shot, do stuff without them, & come out unscathed. That WILL pay off. I've been hoping this will be the case. Just the opposite: according to Steve, if Sessions didn’t recuse, he would have been under investigation too.

By who exactly - I suppose Congress but doubtful with the hell they'd catch from us. The media - they have been essentially neutralized by their insanity.

I don't suffer any illusions the uniparty and the unhinged would just pick something else (tax returns? - emoluments to difficult to say). It seems to me, if this is a big nothing burger like it looks like it is, then don't give the opposition a bat to hit you over the head.

Perhaps he had given up his senate seat at that point but he probably should have resigned. Easy for me to say. However this guy has been in the employ of the federal government a couple years longer than I have been alive.

Once again thanks for the clarification and all the great posts.

Sessions would have been investigated by the same Senate and House committees that investigated Trump.

Of course it isn’t true.

Yet fools on this thread are having conniption fits thinking, for some reason that I cannot fathom, that the NYT prints actual news.
