I wholeheartedly disagree with that idea, which is too much like a so-called "hate crime."

When thieves steal, it doesn't matter whether the owner was out having a good time, attending a loved one's funeral or, evacuated for a hurricane. The stuff is gone just the same.

Of course, Laura can be forgiven for lapsing into chickification mode once in a while. ;)

Her argument is that during a time of crisis police are not doing their normal patrolling but our trying to save lives. Being distracted by looting is a distraction that could cost lives at such a time.
