No preparation?! All the food is gone. Stupid. And not our problem.
Fresh and stored dried food will go bad when exposed to surge water. Stored water can be tainted the same way. Canned food can be buried under rubble or washed away. I had all of this happen to me during Katrina, and I followed the best advice at the time for prepping. Learned that a lot of the advice on prepping is just nonsense written by someone who knows nothing about a disaster.
Evidently they never heard of canned goods or “add water” and cook for two minutes pkgs..
Back in the 80’s I spent 6 months on Antigua. We stayed at the Naval Facility and I even got over to Barbuda.
The Facility had a small base exchange that was restocked once a week by a boat that brought in supplies. If the boat was delayed a few days by bad weather the shelves would get pretty bare.
Most of the small islands are similar. Needed supplies come in on a somewhat regular schedule.
The hurricane would have caused boat captains to secure their boat and stop regular runs.
It ain’t like the states where big trucks loaded with supplies can be dispatched from other areas.
They can always eat each other. Or the vehicles, big screen TVs and such that they stole.
