NHC/NOAA ^ | 9/10/2017 | NHC/NOAA

Posted on 09/10/2017 2:02:02 PM PDT by NautiNurse

The entire Florida Peninsula has begun to experience Hurricane Irma following landfall at Marco Island. Thousands of Floridians who evacuated the Atlantic cost to Gulf Coast areas found their safe shelter under direct threat from Hurricane Irma as the forecast shifted W Friday night and Saturday. Prayers for all in the storm path.

Btw, this might be of interest to you. It's one of the tips on how to keep your cell powered during big, prolonged disasters.

________________________________________

10. Don’t use your phone

This may seem obvious, but during an emergency, your phone is a crucial survival device, not an entertainment system. Resist the temptation to check email, take selfies, and post on social media; leave the phone alone except for periodic updates on the progress of the storm (and by “periodic” we don’t mean every five minutes). Remember that if repair crews are overwhelmed, the power could be out for days.

"If there is no WiFi and no cellular data service, communication apps (including Zello) won’t work."

Posted that already but thanks!

Did you by any chance catch the live Facebook videos coming out of Key West yesterday?

I agree. Conditions have to be near perfect for a hurricane or typhoon to rapidly intensify (or reintensify), and those oscillations prevented Irma from doing so.

If that big high pressure ridge that has been providing my region with such wonderful early Sept. weather the last several days had only pushed just a “smidgen” less South — much less deviation than modern forecast accuracies — Irma might well have kept her act together, made like a perfectly spinning ice skater, and truly lived up to her name.

A lot of repair and rebuilding to be done. It will take years most likely.

Agreed. This storm had the power, and then some. It just wasn’t quite “focused” when it got to FL. Thank God!

I don't do Facebook and generally never use social media sites like Selfiebook. I think I mentioned, I prefer reliable communications and why I'm setup to communicate planet wide, independently and very reliably. But thanks anyway. ☺

It’s a tool. You can click on the Facebook Live map in real time and regular Joe’s are broadcasting live in real time. No censors, no networks, no mainstream media.

High winds and rain in Atlanta. Some flickering of lights.

I thought the GA Governor over-reacted by closing the state down, but now I agree with him. No one should be out in this storm.

My fireman son is working today in a town next to Atlanta. Since there are few fires, his main job is to care for the elderly and remove fallen trees. He’ll have a very busy day today.

True. I have multiple friends who were in the area at the time (most still are); they would all strongly agree with that.

Meant to add: Not as a tool for communication, but as a tool to circumvent the media.

TY for your continuing posts. MSM apparently disappointed and moving on, but for many still being affected, Irma is still a present thought.

If Andrew had hit 20 miles north of where it did, it would have been 10 times worse.

Yep. I work in the insurance industry and can confirm this.

The Folly Boat, beached on Folly Island by Hugo, has floated away on storm tides from Irma.
