The entire Florida Peninsula and points north are poised to experience Hurricane Irma after the storm hugged Cuba's northern coastline. Thousands of Floridians who evacuated the Atlantic cost to Gulf Coast areas found their safe shelter under direct threat from Hurricane Irma as the forecast shifted W Friday night and Saturday. Hurricane Irma's prolonged interaction with Cuba diminished its strength to Category 3.
Irma is forecast to increase in strength as it crosses the FL Straits. The Florida Keys experienced strong outer bands while Irma grazed the N Cuba coastline.

40 dBz eyewall outer boundary now two miles offshore of Summerland Key.
New tornado warning from DelRay to W. Palm Beach. Radar indicated. moving NW at 55, repeat 55 mph.
Thanks - right now that cam just shows the interior stage of the bar with voices in the background. All of the Live Cams on Key West that I looked at are down.
at below 10 mph forward speed no telling how strong it could be,what about sheer?

Watching Fox News (I know, I know) while reading this thread all night. They had Reed Timmer reporting live on the ground in Key West a few minutes ago. He said he’d report more again later if he’s able. The guy’s certainly got more cojones than I can fathom.

Eight feet with a wave could be dicey for a lot of places. No telling on Sugarloaf,that island extends waaaay out into the Atlantic.I guess Key West may be getting a bit of a break here not being on the nasty side....

West edge of eyewall may just graze KBYX radar at the air station. Keeping this radar feed would be a valuable asset.
OMG still that’s down from the 54 feet in the Caribbean a few days ago,so I’m guessing the reef could get his with a 30 foot wave. But, how that translates into how big it is by the time it hits the shoreline I don’t have a clue.
