Do you consider yourself an orthodox Catholic? is an unusual and inappropriate question for a senator to ask a judicial nominee. In fact, the Constitution forbids it.

Constitution? Wasn’t that something written by old white people? I think Obama called it a flawed document containing only negative liberties.
The asking of this question should get a person censured.
Each time the Senator pushes the question, the nominee should just declare "I am asserting my Article VI protection against religious tests and refuse to discuss the matter."

Once again, Dems prove that JFK would have never been allowed to be a Democrat today. Tax cuts, anti-abortion, Catholic, etc etc etc...
While visiting Mt Rushmore in the evening two weeks ago, we were treated to a female Park Ranger giving a speech about voting, before we were able to watch a video about the USA in the amphitheater. She started out ‘In the beginning, the Constitution only granted voting rights to White, Male Landowners’. My husband and I looked at each other and wondered whether or not to stay. Stay we did for a little while. When she got around to the 1920’s she excitedly spoke about WOMEN being granted the Right to Vote. She then paused......and there was no reaction. She said ‘wow, I usually get a great reaction from that point’. I was saddened and appalled that we were being politically divided during a speech at such a wonderful Monument to our forefathers. And by a member of our Park Service. The Constitution must be taught and followed by AMERICANS. The last 8 years have dramatically divided our Nation, these Dem Senators need to read up on their Constitution.....although I doubt they care much about it.
I am not Roman Catholic and disagree with a number of Catholic doctrines. However, I am outraged by this. Even though there are no evangelical Protestants on the Supreme Court (which means that a sizable population of the US is unrepresented), the liberals do not want anyone who questions abortion or so-called same-sex marriage on the bench.
The next round of questionning will include: “Do you consider yourself to be a man or a woman ... or are you ... uh ... ambidextrous?”
What part of no established religion don’t you get?
“What part of no established religion dont you get?”
I’m not sure what makes you think I don’t get what the Constitution says about establishing a religion.
Maybe you don’t get it.
It is outrageous that a nominee for the courts is being questioned about his religion.
There is a reason why we do not have any Protestant evangelicals on the Supreme Court. It is because there are people in power who do impose a religious test on such positions. And they explicitly and specifically do not want evangelicals.
It’s discriminatory against this Catholic and it is discriminatory against evangelicals. It’s also unconstitutional.
Imagine the left’s reaction if someone were to ask if a nominee was a Moslem. Even before the hearings began the left and the media would immediately declare any such questioning off limits.
Would Feinstein say to a muslim, The dogma lives loudly within you, and thats of concern.
