France’s foreign minister warned Friday that North Korea could have the capacity to deliver a nuclear strike on the United States and even Europe “within months”.

Jean-Yves Le Drian called the situation following a string of missile tests by Pyongyang “extremely serious” and urged the reclusive state to turn to dialogue to ease spiralling tensions.

“We see a North Korea whose objective is to have missiles capable of transporting a nuclear weapon tomorrow,” Le Drian told RTL radio.

“In a few months, that will be a reality. At that moment, when it has the capability to hit the US, even Europe and at the very least Japan and China, with a nuclear weapon, the situation will be explosive.” …

Wow, France acting as if it has half a clue.

Now that doesn’t happen very often.

They’ll apologize or surrender with 48 hours, so no big deal.

Kim tries anything, and for the first time there will be lights at night North of South Korea for the first time.

The top half of North Korea will be glowing like a glow worm.

As someone with a degree in nuclear engineering and who has had to do through plutonium decontamination protocols, let me tell you that the “horror” of nuclear weapons is over-played.

Yes, they are truly horrific weapons. However, people walk around Nagasaki, White Sands, and various Pacific atolls and live. People are able to live near Fukushima Japan and there are workers near Chernobly in the Ukraine.

Radiation can kill. However, it can be diluted to the point that life can go on. Fear of nuclear contamination, and the economic disaster to remove all radiation is the real threat. Fire hosing down the contamination and diluting it and going on with our lives would be not that big a deal.

Yes; the greatest destruction of a nuke comes from the heat and pressure wave, not the ionizing radiation.

The difference between what hit Hiroshima and Nagasaki and what is around today is a matter of scale. And of course, there is that nuclear winter hypothesis with the 100-city-firestorm thingy.

China is playing a deadly game here.

First, NK’s missiles don’t always go the direction they are pointed. China could wind up being an unintended target of NK nuke weapons. Or become another victim of NK’s nuclear blackmail.

Second, should NK successfully detonate a nuke on American soil or in Japan or SK, US nuclear weapons would light up NK rapidly. Depending on weather, China could be covered in radioactive fallout, killing millions. Arguing over who’s at fault could start WWIII.

Third, NK’s aggression towards the US & its neighbors could motivate the neighbors - Japan & SK - to acquire nukes themselves, as well as significant anti-ballistic capability which weakens China’s power in the region. US nuclear weapons already in the region cannot be a good thing for China. US weapons do not always hit their target either.

Le Drian called on Pyongyang to "return to the path of negotiations" in a bid to ease tensions.

Perhaps Bill Clinton and Madeleine Albright can head out to N Korea and offer them -two more light water reactors.
On a serious note, we all might want to call that Wise dehydrated food packages company; Wise claims that their paks will last 25 years.
I'd also suggest that if things go from worst to worst, look in your yellow pages and call some different coin dealers. Compare prices and buy some gold and silver coins. In the past three days, the price of gold has gone from $1293 an ounce to yesterday's close @ $1329 spot. I look for gold to keep spiraling upwards daily now.
