A nurse says she was assaulted and illegally arrested by a Salt Lake City police detective for following a hospital policy that does not allow blood draws from unconscious patients.
Footage from University Hospital and officer body cameras shows Detective Jeff Payne and nurse Alex Wubbels in a standoff over whether the policeman should be allowed to get a blood sample from a patient who had been injured in a July 26 collision in northern Utah that left another driver dead.
Wubbels says blood cannot be taken from an unconscious patient unless the patient is under arrest, unless there is a warrant allowing the draw or unless the patient consents. The detective acknowledges in the footage that none of those requirements is in place, but he insists that he has the authority to obtain the draw, according to the footage.

It was this simple, the cop is used to reading the suspect their rights, and here is this pissant nurse reading him HIS rights! He got pissed and lost his temper with a woman. It is pretty much that simple. The cop has anger issues and needs to get counseling.

Yep, someone challenged his A-tho-a-tay... you do not challenge the A-tho-a-tay of those special people who have a badge.
It has been suggested to me by a cop I know that perhaps they were trying to protect the guy they were trying to get the blood from.
It is possible, just possible, that they believed they needed the blood sample to protect him or help him in any ensuing litigation, challenge to his commercial driver’s license or to his badge.

The nurse is guilty of obstruction.
Chief Brown urged citizens to, “trust in the process” as well as in the Salt Lake City Police Department.
Not after we've seen how that worked out for the nurse.

With all due respect, if you believe that, then you believe that a police state is a good idea. The cop here did not explain his “knowledge”, and he did not bother to get a warrant from a judge. He simply demanded that that nurse obey his every whim and command.
The Founders took up arms against such actions.
Also, the man the nurse is protecting just killed someone. She could be charged with destruction of evidence.
The cop doesn’t require a warrant, nor is he required to provide legal training to a nurse when his evidense is being metabolized. She needs to respond to a lawful order.
You must think a criminal state is a good idea if you think killers should have rights that the rest of us don’t.

Oh, my. So if a cop demands to search your house, or your car, or your underwear, just let him. Don’t ask for a warrant. Don’t invoke the Fourth Amendment. Just let him do as he will. It worked for the Gestapo. And it worked for the Stasi. Why not work here as well?
By the way, the patient in this case was not the “killer”.
Try actually reading the article. The unconscious IS the victim and the dead person is the one the cops were chasing. Obviously, you need to work on your reading comprehension. If reading is a problem for you, try watching the video.

No, she isn't.
The truck driver in question here is lying in a coma in the hospital burn unit as a result of a head-on collision caused by a perp who was driving erratically and running from the police. There is no probable cause for the cop to need the truck driver's blood. Not even under federal CDL laws.
The perp who caused the collision died in that same collision.
She got emotional, she resisted ARREST.
