Editorial: Harvey should be a warning to Trump that climate change is a global threat
Los Angeles Times ^ | August 30, 2017 | Times Editorial Board

How refreshing it is when the president directs our attention to the words of experts — people who ascertain facts, study the issues, dissect the causes of problems, and put their biases and suppositions aside to figure out solutions.

If Trump himself were to consult the experts — such as, you know, climate scientists — he would learn that global warming is real. He’d also learn that although warming did not cause Hurricane Harvey, it certainly makes such storms stronger, more unpredictable and quicker to intensify.

As difficult as it might be for someone so incapable of introspection and reevaluation, the president needs to understand that he has subscribed to fake science, and that he must alter his course. We remain optimistic that other actors will continue to change their behaviors to help confront the problem. But this would be a far more winnable battle if the world wasn’t also forced to fight ignorance in the White House, and a president content to whistle past the flooded graveyard.

isn’t the amount of rainfall a function of the speed at which the storm travels? isnt it the case that 2 high pressure systems forced the storm to stall? if thats the case, did global warming create the 2 high pressure systems?

no one discussing this, just focussed on the rainfall totals.....

This kind of egotistic view that humans are the center of the universe goes back to at least Ptolemy.

I suppose Ptolemy’s view of the solar system should have been a warning to Galileo that a sun-centered universe is a global threat.

LAT truly is ignorant. Amelia in 1978 dumped 48 inches of water in corpus Christi TX. Then it continued a normal hurricane track northwest looping eventually northeast.

Harvey was blocked from a normal path by a high pressure system that held it in place.

So, unless global warming has the earth spinning in the opposite direction and atmospheric pressure reversing the difference between hot and cold and high and low, this was entirely predictable.

Which meteorolgists did. They said Harvey would stall.

Can you imagine if Amelia had stalled? It dropped 48 inches without stalling.

These ghouls need to stop! They never miss an opportunity to advance themselves. Listen Los Angeles and listen carefully, everything is not about you, we had floods before you thought up your climate scheme and we will have floods long after you are dead. You are sickening

Meanwhile, we’re going to be down in record-low temperature ranges in the NYC area for the next couple of days. The low on Friday is supposed to be below 50.

Even if global warming was true, I still cannot find a clause in the Constitution that the document declares itself null and void if a group of scientists declare a global emergency. Frankly, I believe the human race would be better off taking its chances with global warming, than ceding its rights and liberties to an elitist (i.e, Marxist) cabal that 'knows' what is best for us.

"Editorial: Harvey should be a warning to Trump that climate change is a global threat"

So? It's not caused by mankind. It's only a result of two natural, routine physical events that happen once in a long while: the magnetic field deviation (with weak spots) and the extended solar minimum.

So there are some slightly more extreme temperature fluctuations, and the "meteorologists" (weather girls) don't know what they're talking about. Their effort is that of broadcasting propaganda for their effeminate bosses in favor of artificial scarcity and incremental genocide.

Islam is a global threat.

Communism is a global threat.

The weather is a local threat.

Does the Times editorial board have any solutions? If so, rather than keeping those solutions to themselves how about taking the lead in solving the problem?
