Just for comparison, I know of kids who passed Novice and Technician Amateur Radio Operator exams at age 5. It's a big enough accomplishment to warrant a news story on a TV station. That requires some reading and math literacy to pass the exam. That puts these 5 year old kids well beyond what passes for a "high school graduate" in Baltimore. That's not even sufficient to work at a minimum wage fast food job or stocking shelves at Walmart.

So Baltimore schools are truly turning out the marching morons. This is pathetic. Every Baltimore school should be taken over by the state (not the feds) and returned to standard. Maryland being what it is, however, don’t hold your breath.

Our home schooled daughter took the SATs a few weeks after turning 13 (she was not in HS yet) & then ranked in the 86th percentile of “college bound” high school students. This was in 1997. She said that something was wrong if she was that much better than all these other kids that had already had 3 years of HS and were supposedly college material.

I told her the truth. That she was indeed smart & educated. At the same time, most of them were severely lacking in real education, that they had been cheated and lied to by the school system. I also told her that she had an obligation to herself to make the most of her skills. She has.
