Not being Navy, commander = captain?————— O-5’s found on many ships as Commanders. Captains are O-6. usually the Larger vessels (My guess, but I’m Army.).

On a ship that size, the CO would probably be a Commander.

Not Navy either, but it’s confusing. “Commander” and “Captain” are both ranks, but whoever is in charge of a navy vessel is called “captain” as well. So I guess captain is both a rank and a job title. Someone will correct me if I’m wrong.
