The Shelby gang's back together again. Calling themselves the Original Venice Crew, former Shelby American team members have joined forces to create an essentially new and moderately updated version of the Shelby GT350R. This crew consists of Peter Brock, Jim Marietta, and Ted Suttonand they're channeling Carroll Shelby's spirit. Shelby hit upon some road-racing magic when he got his hands on the 1965 Ford Mustang, . He turned what he called a "secretary's car" into a real street-legal race car. It was dubbed the Shelby GT350R and it was fitted with a modified version of Ford's K-Code engine. They also had drum brakes, four-speed gearboxes, and live rear axles. If you want to own one today, you'd need to come up with a serious pile of cash and find someone willing to part with their car. Or, you can buy a brand-new one from the team that helped bring the original to life.

2 cyl. hybrid electric?
That first one had a six cylinder with 3 speed manual on the floor.
It was known as the “secretary’s delight”.
I remember those days in my friends 1970’s bullet back Buick Riviera, was crap off the line but absolutely scary on the top end.
In 1967 a good friend of mine (who I long ago lost track of) drove his 1967 Mustang 289 fastback from Moorhead, MN to Seattle then to Los Angeles and home via Las Vegas, and dozens of lovely little towns. Two 18 year old’s living the dream!. Really.
unrealized that’s A total non sequitur. Sorry.
Absolutely LOVED my Rivvy...was like driving a plush couch around. Never drove it fast.
However, the Pontiac 442...
Some assembly required. ??
Ya Reckon?
My brother-in-law had a Monza Spider (can’t remember what year) but he cut away the wheel wells to drop a 350 into it. The car didn’t look like much but the sound of the 3/4 racing cam kind of gave it away at the lights. Some guys tried but if I didn’t spinout too much with such a light car, nobody could touch mem
Did Pontiac also make a 442?
For a short time around 1968 the Olds 442s were the hottest car around.
and distinctly remember the hash lines turning into a solid line.
************
That would be at around 130ish...
oh to be a bit younger again.
Could be argues that is not a real GT350 as it still has the factory “vents” rather than the rear quarter windows of the 350. Or, it might be a very early model before they put i windows back there?
Seek help
OLDS...OLDS 442
One of the Smothers Brothers raced one.
Sorry i knew i’d embarrass myself on this this thread. Yes it was an Oldsmobile. Dangit...corrected myself before you busted me. (I thought, until your fast fingers got me.)
Beautiful car. But I have a 67 Camaro convertible I prefer.
Yeah, i remember glancing over at the speedo at 140...and then i started praying.
Don’t worry about it. I do it all the time. It seems much more so in the last few years.
I know what I am saying but seem to not be paying attention.
During my freshman college year, a classmate friend’s father who ran A very successful garage bought one of these 66’s for him to drive to school. It screamed until the governor his father installed kicked in.
