Interesting article.

One thing that puzzles me is the “Jews won’t replace us” slogan that one of the right wing groups was supposedly chanting, which the author mentions in the article.

The first time I saw anything about this, it was reported that they were chanting “You won’t replace us,” because this group is very anti-immigrant (like their forebears, who hated the Italian, Chinese and Irish workers brought into the country for the railroads).

To me, “you” and “Jews” could sound very much alike when chanted by a group. I remember a Woody Allen movie where somebody says something beginning with the phrase “did you” or “do you” and his character, who is a nerdy and basically paranoid and self-hating Jew, says “listen, listen, he said ‘Jew’...”

“Jews won’t replace us” makes no sense, on top of that. We have very little Jewish immigration to the US, and in fact, some are leaving because of the left’s hostility to Jews.

________

If you watch some of the alt right YT videos and especially read the comments, they believe Jews are the cause of the invasion of Muslims, Mexicans and Africans. Among all sorts of other nefarious schemes to destroy the USA.
