It is believed that Glenn Miller's plane was flying in a place where bombers dropped unused bombs (ordinance) in the English Chanel.

In World War II, it was dangerous for bombers to land with bombs still on the plane (in case of crash landing).

Nothing is known one way or the other about what happened.
